There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Exhaust Slip Joint on the RT Questions

I have read a LOT about Y-Gaskets and exhaust slip joints but as far as I can tell this is mostly an issue on the RS and not the RT. Is this correct?

BRP recommends changing these at 12,000 miles even on the RT, is it really necessary at 12,000 miles?

How can you tell when it is needed?

I know most are replacing the RS Y-Gaskets with the Honda gasket but the part numbers are different between RS and RT gaskets so I doubt this wold work for the RT?

Are the BRP parts for the RT better than the BRP parts for the RS? Is there another manufacturer part for Rt?

Sorry for all the questions if they have been asked before but I could not really find a lot about the RT gaskets.

Not alot of help I know, but thought I'd throw out what my experience so far

We've got almost 24,000 miles on our 2011 RT-S & I thought all was well with our exhaust gaskets, but when I stopped by CowTown & talked with Len a couple months back, I found out otherwise. After shoot'n the breeze & Teddy having his way with everyone, we stepped out to the parking lot & I geared up for our ongoing trip to ThreeFeets house & as soon as I started the Spyder, Len was standing next to it & cocked his head in a perplexed look at what he was hearing, sounded like usual to me. He then proceeded to lightly roll on the throttle just a little & asked me how many miles I had. At that time, it was a little over 21,000 miles & he imediately asked me if I heard that, as he gently rolled on the throttle again, with a smile on his face. I exclaimed I didn't notice anything, & he said my gaskets are going out & need replacing, just by listening to the throttle for a couple seconds:bowdown: The man knows his stuff :firstplace:

As soon as we got back to Cincy I called Middletown Cycle & told them I needed them to order the BRP gaskets for me & if they were aware that most RS owners were replacing them with the Honda gaskets, & the Service Mgr. said he hadn't heard of that before. Since then tho, I had back surgery 2 weeks ago, so I haven't been able to make it up there yet to get them replaced. But after my experience with Len, I can now hear that there is a slight difference in sound, not neccesarrily the exhaust, but more a gasping sound like from the air intake, if that makes any sense, but its clearly from the deteriating exhaust gaskets. Along with the slight change in sound, it seems to be putting out much more heat especially on the right side. Once I get my back condition in check, I'll head to the shop to see what they say. Good Luck & I'm interested to see what others have to say about this as well.
