First Ride and a heat question......

Finally, after a great deal of help and advice from the members of this forum, I'm the proud owner of a :spyder:!!!!! :2thumbs: I picked up my yellow 08 SE5 on Saturday and I can honestly say it's even more fun than I imagined. I'm disappointed that I've only got 100 miles on her so far (work keeps getting in the way).

I know there is a lot of discussion about how hot these things get, but I just went to the store and back (about 6 miles RT) and the temp guage went to six bars by the time I got home (35-40 mph). When I got off, I noticed the side panels were both hot to the touch and the "tank" was also really hot as well as the steering column. Is this normal - the bike was only running for about 10 minutes?!:dontknow: I didn't notice any issues on Saturday's ride, but I didn't touch the panels after I got off the bike.

Any input and opinion would be greatly appreciated.:helpsmilie:

I never had mine get to six bars but the panels seem to get rather warm, not hot to the touch though. Mine normally runs 4 bars but if I'm stuck in traffic it will go to five bars but once I'm moving again, it immediately drops to four bars.

Well, when work gets in the way, ride it to work! Unless you gotta wear a skirt or something! :thumbup:

Check coolant level.. plus make sure fan is coming on.. I agree with what you are saying - seems to be running too hot...

welcome:congrats: Bought my spyder 6 weeks ago, SE5. Check your coolant. A few days after I bought mine, we noticed mine was almost bone dry!!!

Mine also got to 6 bars last Sunday for the first time, side panels and top got really hot. I have a service coming up, and will have that checked. Coolant levels were fine.

My Spyder always runs at three bars unless I'm in stop and go traffic. Then it can go anywhere between four to six bars. It's been a cool summer here, upper 70's to lower 80's (only one day has it went over 90). It will be interesting to see how hot it runs when temps are in the upper 90's.

I am usually between 3-5 bars...when I ride in the cooler months, it doesn't get to 5 bars...

Your fan should be kicking on around 5 bars...

I like Lamont's recommendation...take the bike and park it in your driveway...let it idle until you have 5-6 bars and you should see the fan go on...if it doesn't you have a problem...

welcomeIt has been hot and humid here with temps in the high 90's My bike usually runs at about 4 bars when I am rolling fast and in stop and go can go to 6 I have never let it run in the driveway to see when the fan kicks in and with the MBRP pipe I sure can't hear it. I think I will try that just to check.:spyder:
