There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. First time removing/installing a battery...HELP!?!

I have a 2014 RTS. Bike has been sitting over a year due to illness in family. Battery is dead and needs replacing. New battery not purchased yet as I want to replace with same brand once I see what that is. Frunk is open, battery cover removed and battery revealed. However, can't figure out how to remove stationary strap that is holding battery so that I can get to the negative and positive terminals. Can't find a video on YouTube showing how to remove strap.

Pull rubber strap upward and unclip from bracket on top of battery. Remove pos cable. Remove Neg cable, remove bracket, lift out battery. Installation is the reverse.

Battery

:agree: The OEM Yuasa is the way to go. It's your Spyder so get what you like best. ....

.

It really isn't much effort to remove the frunk lid ( 4 bolts) to give you good access to the battery compartment for the strap and terminal fitment. It's been said here a hundred times----- add star washers to the battery terminals.

Thanks, Lew L. I'm pretty sure I know what star washers are and where they should be placed. I'm guessing this is to create a better bond to the battery. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm totally new to doing anything on my bike.

That and to discourage them from vibrating loose.

Bike battery terminals have a tendency to loosen, that's why it's best to place lock washers under the bolt heads.
Always remove the negative cable first and connect last.
Make certain the new battery is FULLY charged prior to installing.
A quality battery maintainer such as a Battery Tender greatly increases the life of a battery. Get one if you don't have one.

:agree: .... especially the " STAR " washers, I have been telling this to folks here for the past 8 years. .... and " properly " doing the initial charge ( if you get a Yuasa with the battery acid in a container ) is very important to the life of the battery ..... follow the instructions to the letter although you rarely have to remove a battery, I have always added a duct tape strap around the middle so you can easily pull it out .... put a piece of paper on the front side of the battery so the tape doesn't stick to it ..... good luck .... Mike

Thanks, RICZ. Planning on picking up lock washers today. Makes sense to do this step since I'll already have the battery out. I do have a battery tender, which I've been using on my Spyder...and the battery's lasted almost six years. I'm going to use the same battery as I'm removing and hoping it will last as long. Thanks, again...

Always remove negative cable first then positive cable, when installing connect positive first then negative cable.

From BK911: "I have always added a duct tape strap around the middle so you can easily pull it out .... put a piece of paper on the front side of the battery so the tape doesn't stick to it"

Excellent tip!

The OEM Battery

:chat: Most Spyder OEM batteries/motorcycle batteries don't have any handles.
A handle/strap is a great idea. ......

Have seen the handle on Some RV batteries.

Finally got battery out. Dang thing was HEAVY. Ordering new Yausa from Amazon. Good price at $120. Plan on also getting star washers. Questions: what size, what is placement on terminals. Thanks...

Well the small bolts are 10mm so 1/4in. washers will fit nicely..... put washer on bolt, add wire connector, put bolt on battery ..... good luck .... Mike ....PS I usually stuff a small piece of cardboard under the enclosed Nut to keep it from falling out ( which it usually does )
