• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. For those that sold their Spyder

For those that sold their Spyder (whatever the reason was), I would like to know what you replaced it with.

My spyder is going on 3 months in the shop. We think that the new DPS unit is defective!!! I am really ticked off by all that down time (almost the entire summer), and am thinking about selling mine and getting someting else, maybe another trike.

What are your experiences?

Bersquack,

You do not sound like a happy spyder owner and I am sorry to hear.
I feel you pain, when you put your time and money into a toy you want it to work! I got my spyder for health reasons and so far it has served me well. I have kept my former ride, a 2005 Busa. It would have been a lot cheaper to put a Pingel elec. shifter on the Busa, and I still will this winter. But I wanted to try something new. Good luck to you what ever you do.:ani29:

I posted some unhappy stuff about selling mine about a month ago. After the last round of fixes, the clutch, the updates, etc., I re-posted that I am a happy camper. A month later, the RTS is still running fine. I did buy a Kaw Vulcan 900 LT in the interim---I got a really good deal on a holdover 2009----and it is fun to be driving on two wheels again. I have put 1500 miles on the vulcan in a couple of weeks. I also looked at HD trikes in the interim. I was not impressed with what you got for the money--however, thats my personal opinion. A Gold Wing or other Lehman trike might be a better deal--but figure 10K more than a RTS. It seems that the negative postings have slowed down for a time--maybe this means that issues are being solved better than they were. Continuous problems with the DPS may mean the dealer is wrong with the diagnosis or fix. I have not bailed from our two Spyders yet, as both are working well. I hope that you can get your issues resolved to your satisfaction.

Kaw

For me, if I were to go back to two-wheels. It would be a Kaw Cruiser of some sort.

AKSPYDERMAN, That is the case with me. My spyder has been repaired and is doing as well as it used to. Backfires everday but other than that, the only other thing I notice is if I just let it idle down the road in first gear it does not always want to keep running.

Three Months.. ticked off... I would be breathing fire and camping in the dealers. That is just not on. What a shame to have lost the summer also.
I got a DPS and a guy from the U.K. to fit it and no problems since two months. I could say that it would be worth the wait, but I know that it will never be the same for you again. I hope you have alternative transport.
My favourite bike was Suzuki Bandit, comfortable and reliable and fast when needed.
Wishing you all the best.

Just my thoughts, No pitchforks, or flaming torches necessary.:D
To tell the truth I'm hanging on with my Spyder until another company comes out with a Reverse Trike. In the mean time i got myself a two Wheeler so i can ride when ever i have to work on the Spyder, instead of rushing to repair the Spyder so i can ride.

Probably not the demographic you want to hear from, but certainly one of many on this site who replaced their SE5/SM5 with an RT. Sorry to hear about your difficulties, and never having had to experience that, can't imagine (although being in the military has kept me off the Spyder for weeks at a stretch) what that must be like. Still, the Spyder has been so enjoyable that my wife, who initially would never consider even riding with me, has just completed her Basic Rider's Safety Course so that she can ride it on her own. Hang in there!

MAYBE A HONDA GOLDWING

My new SPYDER RT se5 lasted four weeks.
Bought in May. DPS went in June. Plus faulty clutch. BRP had no spares.
Spares have now arrived. But dealers mechanic is now sick.
All going well, should have Spyder returned by the end of August.
Two months, without the Spyder on the road is not a good advert.
Now considering a Goldwing.
Happy motoring.

Wife drives the Spyder now and I have a 98 Honda ST1100A. I missed two wheels, hence the motorcycle purchase. The Honda sport tourer is about the best motorcycle for long range touring I have owned. But..

Now I m thinking of going back to 3 wheels, actually an RS-S. Possibly later this fall,or next year.

Is Carlo helping you ? If Not- Why Not?? You have the Lemon Law and a New Spyder coming your way if you pursue it!
I lost mine six weeks (Which was bad enough) BUT I,m in Love with it again after 2 140 mile afternoon trips to the Ocean and back!
I thought about a MP3 But it doesn,t hold a candle to the Spyder so if mine breaks down for another extended period in the next 14 months they WILL GIVE me a New one with less than 100 Miles on it. \nojoke
Hopefully it won,t hip cup again?

Thanks to all for the input. I currently have a Sportster that I ryde, but I still miss the spyder immensely.

I have been talking with Carlo, but still no resolution yet. Unfortunately, I cannot pursue the lemon law because my spyder is over one year old with about 8K miles on it, but if I could I would.

I'm thinking a HD or goldwing trike, but I will lose a ton of money on the trade.

I need to call my dealer and vent a little...

I've been looking at a Buell Ulysses or a used Kawasaki Concours for a two wheeler. I think they fit the way I like to ride the best.

My 2009 SE5 spyder has 7500 miles and has been trouble free for the most part. I always had an uncomfortable feeling that something can go wrong and therefore never drove it more than a 100 miles or so away from home. Some of this feeling comes reading posts like this one and many many others. Last month I decided to purchase a new HD triglide ultra classic. Since then I had almost 2000 miles on it already and I have enjoyed it to the fullest. 100 percent confidence in the way it runs and operates. Still love my spyder and will keep it for around town excurssions. Since my HD purchase I havnt driven the Spyder more than 100 miles. Good luck.

bjt... Both of those are in my little riding group. The Buell is nice but the Concours is a real screamer in addition to being a good touring bike.

The guy who rides the Buell (one of his three bikes) is pretty close to your size... 6'3" and about 320... ok, ok, maybe you don't weigh that much. :yikes:

I think you would be happier with the Connie. Its is similar to the Honda ST1100 I just rode across country. I have a friend in da UP who has an 08 Connie, He went to CO and back last year. He said it is a wonderful motorcycle. REALLY FAST!

I've been enjoying being passenger with HDX for long hauls. Day trips and not too far I'll take the Spyder. I used to ride it long haul and I do have the extended warranty but I just like riding on the back of a Harley right now. I'm a teeny weeny bit uneasy taking the Spyder too far for fear of no dealers being near by if something were to happen. I would like to see who else comes out with a reverse trike. I've been toying with two wheels again but I really don't want two vehicles. Well it would be nice if I had no debt but an extra vehicle isn't in the cards for me just yet. I am gonna keep the Spyder until I see who else comes out with another reverse trike. Spyder isn't a bad machine, it just needs some tweeking, more dealerships and more dealers that know how to fix them. I do like riding it, it's alot of fun, just uneasy about potential breakdowns in the middle of nowhere. I know other bikes break too but this thing has so much into it - computer-wise, it seems so sensitive to every little thing and that is what makes me nervous when it comes to taking long trips with it. Between dps, limp mode, cracking coolant bottles - am I supposed to ride with a trunk full of spare parts? So that is the thing that bums me out a little.

Now if nobody comes out with anything and I wasn't gonna go two wheels, I would really love this..... was looking at it a while back - hdx wants one for blizzard ridin! We would fight over who gets to ride it:2thumbs:

I'm getting there. 260 at the doctors office the other day. She wants me to lose about 40 lbs. A big reason for liking the Buell is it's an American machine.

Buell isn't made anymore, is it? Didn't HD cancel the line? I guess they will still service them?
