Front tires for my 2014 RT Limited

I've gotten almost 21,000 miles on my original front tires. They are absolutely ready to be changed! Has anyone used a Goodyear dealership to replace your front tires? If so, what tire did you use?

Second question: is the lazer alignment just for the rear tire (nothing to do with the front)?

I just ordered and installed a set of Federal tires on my 2014 RT, with 17k miles. The original tires were still pretty good, but now I know how a spyder should ride and handle. I purchased them for around $65, and had them installed at a car tire place (Mr. Tire) for $20 each. My only suggestion when removing the wheel and tire, is to remove the mud flap first. It makes removing the tire much easier.

A laser alignment will take all three tires into account...
It is well worth whatever it costs. nojoke

(Still using OEM tires up front at 15,000 miles)

IMHO, car shops ( any type ) are not going to touch a Spyder for LEGAL reasons. However if you take the wheels off and bring them in any shop can re-move and mount the tires .... if are buying them at that shop you need to KNOW what tire you are buying .....THEY WILL NOT ..... and if you tell them it's for a Spyder ( ie motorcycle ) they will say good bye. Just buy your tires on E-bay and bring them to an independent tire install shop and have them do it..... they can even Spin balance it for you.....Mike

That is what I did. Purchased the tires on Amazon, and then went to a regular tire dealership and they mounted the tires to the wheel that I brought in. The only remark that I had was, they asked me if this was from a smart car, because of the tire size. I told them no, it was from my spyder.
I don't understand why everyone has issues when it comes to telling them you are buying stuff for a spyder. I told them it was for a spyder when I purchased my front and rear tires. They had no problem selling me their product. Even my spyder dealer told me when I went to have my kumo installed by them on the rear. They talked about how nice it was and that they wish they carried them.

........You found a Shop that doesn't care if they get SUED or not ......I told the poster what I did so He wouldn't get a surprise and NO TIRE MOUNTING ..... It has happened to people here before ..... PS...Why do you think everyone is having problems buying KUMHO tires from Discount Tire ????????........ Mike

Last year, I had no problem getting a custom trike shop to replace my rear tire with a Kumho - the guy even watched Lamont's video on how to do it without messing with the belt tension and followed the procedure.

This year, I went to them with a pair of "Blade " wheels to have tires mounted - they said he'd been warned by their insurance company to not work on Spyders for liability reasons. I went to two tire shops and neither carried tires that fit the wheels - and said they would not mount tires they didn't sell for "liability reasons" - and they had no idea what vehicle the wheels were for.

The lawyers are screwing us!

I have read plenty of post on here where people have made comments about having problems ordering tires from Discount Tire. Not sure why, I had no trouble, but maybe they thought it was for a car since I ordered 2.

Today I had two Kumho KH16 175/55R-15's mounted.

I ordered the tires from Tire Rack Sunday and they arrived today. I took them and my wheels to Cosco and they dismounted my Kumho 155/60R-15's that had 27,000 miles on and installed my new tires with new valve stems. The price included disposal of my old tires and would have included balancing them, but I use RideOn so told them not to, for a total charge of $30.00.

When asked what car I told them 1983 Alfa Remeo Spyder since they had to put something in their computer, but I did tell them it was for a trike. They did not care!

Ordered 4 Kumhos and 3 Michelins from Discount Tire, all mounted and balance fronts

Local DT has been fine to order, mount and balance the tires that I have bought from them. Even balanced 2 more Kumho Solus KH16 155/60R15s that I bought at Firestone that they couldn't balance. The tires are on my "user" list as "carry out" and if asked they're for my project buggy. Have another Kumho in the garage to put on in another couple thousand miles when the OEM Kenda wears out.

Did you notice a difference between the 175/55's and the 155/60's?

Can't tell yet as I am waiting for my brake pads from Ron to arrive so I can install them before I mount the wheels to the Spyder. Those should arrive in the next 2 days and then I can break both in before our week end trip.

What model Kumho tire are you guys using for the rear?
What about the Ecstra AST 225/50R 15 ?
If you have used this tire in the past, what kind of millage did it give you?

I just had Goodyear change my back tire, and yes I call before hand and ask them if I bring in a motorcycle wheel would they change the tire for me, they did and it was a car tire they put on. now could not balance it because their machine would not work with the spyder wheel, so I call can am dealer and ask if they could balance the tire and wheel for me, why yes we can, when i got there he said thats a car tire you have on, I said yes, so he balanced it but refused to fill out any paper work.

.........They are the same tire !!!!!..........Mileage varies, but at least three times what any Kenda will give you................The General Altimax RT 43 in 215/60-15 is what I recommend ......or if you have the money get the Michelin Primacy it's a bit better.......Mike

Like Mike said...Kumho Ecsta gives about 3 X the wear life

For our RT's and style of riding we're getting 30,000 plus. Just put on our 5th Kumho Ecsta this morning on my RT with 14,950 out of the OEM Kenda (smooth in the center). I changed out the wifes OEM at 12,500 and she now has 38,500 and still looking and riding great with Kumhos front and rear (changed the OEM fronts at 23,500). Time for an oil change on hers again, but should be good on tires and brakes til next year.

Is your Kumho the "AST" model? Thanks
