• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

fuel cap stuck

I can't get the fuel cap unscrewed to refill with gas. Luckily this happened locally and I can have it here in the garage but if this happens on the road there's going to be some expressed frustration. Who else has this happen and how do you get it off. The fuel cap rotates and clicks counter clockwise. Sometimes it'll do it and finally catch and open but this time it hasn't opened. Time for a RubberMaid sink plug I think?

Ok, Got it off. When the bike cooled it took a few turns but the cap finally broke free and loosened. I think I'll put a little silicone around the neck so the seal isn't dry. Is there something that will stay put in the fuel environment.

There were quite a few posts last summer about stuck gas caps. Here is one post that I copied for you. You may want to do more searching to find other posts. I do know that quite a few people switched out their fuel caps and haven't had problems since.

Fuel
cap on the 2014 has no vent to blow off pressure or fumes, and the cap also has no vacuum relief.

I did some checking and found that Walmart has Stant fuel caps. The one I purchased has a vacuum relief valve. The cap also features a design where you loosen the cap and the first 1/2 turn while loosening will open a second valve and depressurize the fuel tank.

The cap is a Stant brand and is Part Number 10819 with a cost of about $8.

Last summer

Last summer I also put on the Slant fuel cap----- No problems at all!!

Well....

Looks like the Stant gas cap is the way to go. You seem to have a lack of venting causing pressure build up. Might check that out as well...

Bob, it is on AppleSpyders post. Third post from the top.

That's a vented cap. Not a direct replacement for the original cap. If that's what you want that's fine. But not the same.

A couple of years ago mine went bad, stuck at fuel pump in Disney World, for 45 minutes, finely came off. Got a BRP replacement and everything has been fine since. I am looking at these as a wear item to be replaced every 3 or 4 years. :dontknow:

Are you sure on that one? I thought the 10819 isn't vented but has the pre-release so it don't get stuck, hence why it's a good replacement.

The other two that have been mentioned before are 10835 & 11835.

Haven't found any spec details yet on any of them

The specs

For the 10835 can be found in the Stant electronic catolog available on Stant's website. The 11835 is the same number Pepboys or Autozone use 11 rather than 10 as the first two digits. I've been using the Stant cap for just about three years and have never had a problem since.

One more reason for a canisterectomy. I never tighten my gas cap till it clicks. Also after the canisterectomy no more flooded starts.
