• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin map update

Yesterday Garmin made a new map update available 2016.20. No reports of any problems updating and it took me about an hour and 20 minutes.

I recommend using Garmin Express and make sure it is the latest version before proceeding.

For those of you that have never updated your maps before.
If you have a older Zumo 660 that came from Can Am. You need to buy a Lifetime Map subscription if you wish to update the map. Under the battery it will have the model as "Zumo 660, NA"
If you have a newer Zumo 660 that came from Can Am. It will have free lifetime maps. Under the battery it will have the model as "Zumo 660LM, NA" or something like that. The LM being the key.
If you got the Zumo 590 from Can Am. It will have free lifetime maps. Some have report that it does not come up that way in Garmin Express. You will have to call Garmin to get it fixed.

:agree: Thank you!
Billy,
I have a question...
The last time that I downloaded a map update; the system told me that the GPS's memory was 92% full. :yikes:
Is there stuff in there that I should be deleting? :dontknow:

Bob

although you wont free up much space, you can delete unused languages and icons.

Cruzr Joe

You can also delete old routes, that should free up some space as well. I update at least once a year using express. Depending on the changes it can take over an hour. I added a micro SD card to my Garmin...Holds all kinds of stuff now.

Mine is 90% full so you're not far off. As others have suggested you can delete the extra voices and vehicles you are not using. If you have manually copied files to your GPS. Do you really need them? If it is still problem and you want to add more files you can add a microSD card.

Thanks! I just ordered one from Garmin: 8 gb...

But I think that I will go in, and "clean house" a bit also!

After all: if I need Cantonese in my Garmin; I am WAY more lost than I should be!
...Dumped everything except English (American, Australian, and British), and French-Canadian.
The fleet got thinned out as well... I kept one car, a motorcycle, a monster truck, and the Spyder.

Updated mine, no problems. Took a little over an hour. BTW, I purchased the lifetime map upgrade from Garmin ($89.99) as my Zumo 660 does not have "LM" after the serial number and have now used the feature twice, so it's getting close to paying for itself as opposed to buying a one time upgrade. Bad on BRP for not making a deal with Garmin that all of the Spyders that came with a Garmin would have free lifetime upgrades.

What is the definition of "Life"?

According to Garmin it is the life of the product. i.e. before they decide to make it obsolete =~5years!
