Gas tank capacity?

On a 2015 RT Limited the book says 6.9 gallon capacity with 1 gallon reserve. So....does that mean that it is a 7.9 gallon total capacity? If there is a reserve, I have not found the reserve button or switch. TIA :banghead: I will get over this though, because we love this ride.

my understanding is...

6.9 total volume with 1 gallon of that available after the gauge has read empty. LOL dont trust the gauge. I have been on empty and put between 5 gals and 6 gals into the tank.

You have a gallon remaining when fuel light blinks on. I give it 15 miles to go when my fuel lamp ilumminates. Not run out yet.

 Please... read your manual. :D
BRP didn't put it in the bike for you to use it as toilet paper, when you get "caught short" during a ride... :yikes:

on your digital dash you have "approximately" one gallon of useable fuel left. :yikes: Proceed to the closest station and fill'er up. Don't push it beyond that because no one truly knows for sure just how much fuel you can stuff in a :spyder2: gas tank; or just how much fuel you have left when that icon appears. :dontknow: Many here will tell you they know, but they will all post different answers. So, I go by the records I've kept on my millage and fuel consumption. There are many variables to take in consideration and all together they'll drive you nuts. :banghead: Basically I fill up between 180 and 200 miles and it can take anywhere from 6.3 to 5.3 gallons to top it off. I've pushed the millage beyond 200 miles a few times but if you do :lecturef_smilie: you're venturing into unknown territory. In the end though, as you mentioned, it's all about the love of the ride. Happy Trails.

I have found that the low-fuel light comes on my dash at approximately 205 - 210 miles into the current gas tank. I get approx. 39 - 41 mpg depending on a gazillion variations.

I usually refuel around 200 miles or so--yesterday at 189. I don't like pushing the envelope. I have never run a tank dry.

I usually end up putting between 5 and 6 gallons in the tank.

Where is that in the manual? I've read it pretty much cover to cover but somehow missed that part. I just checked the TOC and can't find it. :banghead:

Here's the thing..!!

that capasity is if filled totally. Something you can not do with the tank in the roadster (air/vent space). The gallon considered reserve is part of the 6.9 and it is a good idea to know your miles per gallon so you can judge when to get fuel after the low fuel light comes on.

The OP has been here since 2013, with four posts. Sounds as if you have a new bike, so you're uncertain as to your MPG, which will improve over time. From all that has been posted consider 35mpg as a good starting place to figure how far you can go after your light shows up. If you're like me sometimes your appreciating the ride and scenery so much you don't see your bingo fuel point arrive. Enjoy:thumbup::clap:

Thank you I have not seen that either in the book.:yikes: So maybe it is a stupid question. Just wondering though because we rode 195 miles yesterday and no fuel light and the gauge was on empty, and put 5.4 gallons in. Thanks

I see it lists the capacity of the tank--6.9 gal for the 2014 RT.

I cannot find any information about the low fuel warning light anyplace in the 2014 manual. As in, when it comes on, how much approx. fuel left when it happens.??????

Not a problem for me as I mentioned above that my light usually goes on at 205/210. I usually don't go much over 150 when riding with akspyderlady and her 998 which has the light go on at 150 or so. We can do 185 or so on the 998--but that is pushing it to the max.

Gas pump light

I put in 5.4 to 5.7 gal. Depending on how far I go after the light comes on. Recently I have been getting to 200 to 210 miles before the light comes on.

2015 - 2014Manual

Page 33 of the 2015 manual or page 32 of the 2014 manual:

"NOTE: Low fuel indicator lamp turns
on when quantity of fuel is left for
50 km (31mi) if riding steady at speed
of 100 km/h (62MPH) in 6th gear."

By my thinking, BRP is saying that's less than one gallon. Whew. That's cutting it too close. My experience says that's not correct, either. My light comes on and I know I have more left than 31 miles and not in 6th gear at 62 mph. Exactly how much -- I don't want to find out!

On page 167 of my 2015 manual it says the capacity is 6.9 gallons. There is not mention of all that other stuff that's been discussed here. :dontknow::banghead:

Theoretically, if the light comes on and indicates that you have one gallon remaining, then when you fill up, it should take 5.9 gallons, right? My light has come on and I can barely squeeze 5 gallons into the tank. :gaah:

As stated above, unless your filling your tank until it's pouring on the ground you'll never get the full 6.9 gallons into your Spyder.
The indicator light is just a nice reminder that your Spyder is thirsty! :roflblack:
The easiest way to get rid of it is to fill 'er up.

Good find. You know how many times I scanned the manual. I gave up after an hour.:clap:

I look at both the indicator light and the gas gauge as just that "indicators." I don't intentionally run it almost to the end. Based on my calculations and mpg that I usually experience 39 (conservative). I should be able to go 269 miles. 39 x 6.9. I would not try that though. Am very happy with a 200 + tank range compared to what I was getting with the 998.

Exactly. That's the basis for my comment that I'm sure I have more than 31 miles to go. When my light has been on, I usually find it taking about 5 gallons. A very few times 5-1/2 gallons -- never more than that. Given that my light has been on for a while, either BRP's estimate is not correct or I've been running on fumes. I agree I don't expect to get 6.9 in there but I would expect more than 5 or 5-1/2 when my light has been on for some time if I had less than one gallon left when the light came on.

Also note the light is very subject to uphill/downhill. I forget which is which but it will come on early in one direction and then go out as soon as you're level or headed the other direction. I consider that a nice distant early warning system.
