Got a I Pod/I Phone Tech Question?????

One thing I am not up on is Tech......I have been using a standard MP3 in my auxillary port since I got my new RT.....Works OK but only volume works on handlebar controls...and it shows aux input on the screen and that's that..

Well, my son came over and His IPhone 4 fit the other connector that came with the bike and I could change songs and such from the handlebar, as well as the display showed the music info....

I told him I might get an I Pod since I really liked the I Phone interface and additional functions much better than a MP3..

He said, heres the bad news, he told me his phone is old and the new Phones/I Pods have a smaller connector...And that I would not be able to find the old style I Pod...

I guess my question is 2 part..

Do any of you have one newer than 4 th generation with the smaller connector and;
1......Does Can Am have/sell the proper cable for them?......and if so.....
2......Does those additional functions both on handlebar control and screen viewing still work with the newer I Pods/I Phones??

Any advice will be appreciated and thanks in advance!!! :-)

Just bought a used IPod touch on Craigslist. Good way to go. Otherwise just buy an adapter cable going from the 30 pin to the Lightning plug (smaller one).

I have an iPhone 4 and it has the 30 pin connector. Others have reported that the Apple brand 30 pin to Lifhtening connector does work with the Can-Am system. The recommendation is to get an Apple branded item to insure that you get both audio from the device and power to charge it.

Right you are!!

You should easily be able to find an iPod touch 4th gen on eBay for cheap!Bob
Yep......I checked and Ebay is loaded with em...Thanks for the advice...I can probably get the player almost as cheap as an adapter cable......

Old and new used with no problem

I have hooked up an old Nano with the old style connecter. I have also hooked up an iPhone 5 and 5s using a 30pin to lighting converter from Apple and have had no problems with it either.

With that said, since I purchased my Sena 20s and ran power to my dash, I hardly ever turn my Spyder stereo on anymore (maybe just to catch the news once in a while). I just listen to music and talk on the phone through my helmet and it has been a better experience. Using Siri makes it even easier and more powerful.

Hope that helps!

1. NO
2. If you buy an Apple Lightning Adapter. Make sure it's the Apple as 3rd party adapters are hit and miss.

I instead found a I Phone 4 32GB I was able to negotiate a $55 price on...Downloaded I tunes and transfered most my music...

So I used the cable that came with the spyder and*will use it as a music player only...I like the better ability to control it over a mp3......and sounds good too....

Problem solved....Thanks y'all.... :-)

I have a 2014 RTS and I use my IPod with the 30 pin plugged into the stock adapter. My problem is sometimes I start the bike and it says AUX instead of IPod, and then there is nothing there. The radio will still play but not the IPod. I unplug and plug the connectors and shut off and start the IPod, and eventually it recognizes it and Plays again. Anyone else have any ideas?

I use the latest iPod and the Apple Adapter work like charm.

Don't pinch on the adapter. Apple WORKS - other may not and some Do NOT!

AJ, my wife decided we needed a new IPod for my birthday and insisted.

We hit Target the other night with some coupons she had and picked up an IPod Nano generation 7 and the Apple cable adapter.

I will say the music sounds far superior to the oem radio.

The volume works and also the ability to change songs. What I have not sorted out is the ability to switch between play lists.

Sometimes it reads PK's IPod, other times top 25, and so on.

The one feature I want, is a random shuffle, do you know if the Spyder is capable of doing this?

pre set ipod to shuffle, playlist skip hold <,> four seconds & will go to next playlist. & every stop it will go back to songs not stay on playlist. dash display will randomly change to disabled in settings. Apple Lighting cable works fine charge & play even fits with my otterbox case.

By holding the > on your left grip it will switch your iPod into random or shuffle. The passenger can do that too.
I found this by mistake actually when my wife pushed the > on the passenger grip and when she did not hear the song change while holding it down, she kept holding it down and it switched from the Album I was playing into shuffle mode.

Also to see in the dash menus Artists, Albums, and Playlists, you have to have your music organized that way using iTunes. If you just dump all your music into the iPod and those songs do not have META data tags, you will have nothing but a giant list of songs. It took me hours to reorganize my music like this the first time I got an iPod. This was because I ripped all my CD's years ago and back then it did not automatically 5tag each song with information.

My IPod works fine it's just sometimes when I start the bike it will just say AUX, and you have to mess around for awhile to get it to recognize the IPod.
