• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

GPS RAM Mount

Does anyone have a ram MOUNT (BALL TYPE) to hold a GPS. I was going to try to find a mount that would attach to the SE5 cover, but not sure if there were some better ideas. I have an SE5 so t here is no Clutch lever to attach it onto. The "U" bracket appears too small for the handlebars and the bars are plastic covered so i don't want to break them.

Any idea is worth a look, I know I can count on some of your experience out there.

Honestly, your going to hate the sound of this... but... get a sharp hobby knife and make a nice clean cut across the nice plastic trim on the right hand bar, pull it off and there you will find a nice standard handlebar to attatch the U bolt clamp to.

The trim goes back on and with the cut to the bottom you wouldnt know, but if it bothers you that much I don't think it would really be an expensive part.

I did what strats is suggesting to you to hold my Zumo 450 with its included RAM mount hardware (the U bolt / handlebar style).

That's what I did! Perfect!!

FYI
I have mine mounted like this as well (U bolt on the right side where the plastic is removed) I didnt cut mine to get it off. If you loosen everything up you can slide off all the controls on the right and slide the plastic off unscathed, then slide everything back on. Works like a dream!

I mounted my GPS using the RAM ballmount dead center of the console attaching the RAM ball mount on the top plastic that covers the pull out reminder card. I did have to remove the pull out card so that the mounting bolts would not be a problem. While the top plastic section does appear to be somewhat loose, it is strong enough to hold the RAM ball mount, a RAM Aqua waterproof case and my GPS. I mounted it in this location so that I could just look down slightly to see thge GPS without having to really take my eyes off of the road.

Thanks guys,
That is pefect. I have to admit that I did not like Strat's reply (just like he said). Hearing the rest of you, I feel a lot better about it. I didn't know "what was under that trim" so now I am happy with trying to put it back on, or leaving it off, if it is not possible. It is still nicely finished as your pictures attest.
Thanks guys, this forum is a great resource, and you didn't even make me feel silly for asking - Can't wait to meet up with you at a few rallies.

I have the "U" Bracket mount. I removed the plastic ring on the right handlebar and mounted the bracket there. works very well.

I have the first Garmin portable unit the 2610 that I use on my other bike and jet ski and don't really want to buy another one as this one has been great so far but at the same time sure do not want to mount this big thing on the handle bar, where else would you put this model on the spyder.

I think the posters looking for help have SE5s, so no clutch. It's easy if you have a clutch fluid reservoir, but options are more limited with the electronic shift versions.

Here is my RAM mount. Attached the ball mount to plastic just in front of the handle bar. I use a Garmin Nuvi and with a medium size RAM arm I can position the GPS where I can see it by glancing down. It rides nice and solid here and I like it better than having it off to the side of the bars.

Thanks that gives me two pretty good options. I will probably go with the "U" bracket on the left hand side. The GPS is not something that I "watch" a lot, so the occassional glance to the left will be alright, as long as it does not interfere with the mirror view.
i think I'll be able to find my way to TN before ya know it.
btw - YES Bruce is right. There is no Clutch reservoir to mount it.
Thanks to all for the great pics and suggestions

I put my zumo on the right...I actually find it easier to use there, believe it or not...

There is no available space to mount a U-bracket to the left hand side, only the right...at least on a SM5. I think the control pod is bigger on a SE5, so there is no space there, either. Can anybody with an SE5 chime in?
