I really wish we could have rode with Fred from Daytona to San Diego but this was the next best thing. I left my moms house in El Cajon and headed for Hemet to see Fred and spend some time before heading to Hollister to see Mike Corbin. On the way to Freds it started raining pretty good and I had my chaps on instead of my rain pants like a dummy. I got pretty wet and it was a little cold too. Fred talked me in to staying the night and letting the weather pass. It wasn't too hard to talk me into that.
We had a great chat about riding and gear and of course the Spyder. We shot a couple of videos about our thoughts on the RT and as soon as it quit raining I asked Fred about washing the RT before I took off in the morning. While we were drying off the RT Fred noticed my tire was getting a little thin in the middle and I still had a few thousands miles left to go on this trip so I figured it was a good time to look for a tire. We had breakfast with his wife Cherri and after that we took off for Malcolm Smiths shop.
Leaving Fred's place.
It was pretty cool seeing two Spyder RT's with trailers side by side. I got a chance to watch Fred's trailer and see how it did going down the road. He seemed to do just fine.
If you haven't been to this shop it's worth stopping by if nothing else than to see the Spyder hanging off the side of the building.
They had a great Spyder display on the inside too.
Unfortunately they just sold their last rear tire so it was a no go. I did have a great time looking at all of Malcolm's old bikes. He was one of the main reasons I fell in love with motorcycles. I was 12 years old with I first saw the movie On any Sunday and I was hooked from then on. I made it my mission to own a motorcycle when I left the theater and soon after I had saved up enough money to buy my first motorcycle. It was a Kawasaki 90. Thanks Malcolm.
We left Malcolm's place and headed over to Burt's Mega Mall in Azusa. Burt's is a sponsor of SpyderLovers and I haven't been there in years so I wanted to stop by anyway and see the place and meet Art Wood while I was there.
The gal at the desk paged Art and he proceeded to get me hooked up with a tire while he showed us around the place.
I met the parts guy and quite a few of the service guys and they were all great to work with. They had a tire in stock and even though they were maxed out they jumped right on it so I could get down the road asap.
I got out of there about 2pm and headed to Corbin's place. It was a great day for a ride and even though it was a little windy I still had a blast on the RT. The more I ride it the more I like it. Got a room in Hollister and got caught up on my work and was nice and rested for a new day.
