• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

.Has anyone tried to put a sidecar on your SpYder? We have started raising a grandchild and suddenly needs more seats. Is this even possible? Safe?

Mike - Tx law requires the child to be 5 on any motorcycle. Doubtful they class a sidecar separately. We looked at kid options and gave up ourselves.

Really..!!!

isn't that like danggling your child over the railing..:roflblack: he/she would be out there unless its the wife your putting into on coming traffic..:roflblack: all kidding aside does not seem like a good idea. Could be done but I for one would not be doing it. Now an extended swing arm and a sea doo seat could work...

Possible? Safe? Both out of my league although it sould probably be a big thing. Now, a teenager with a 'tude is a possibility for some strong grandparental bonding. If he learns/sees that improvement in 'tude can lead to jaunts on the Spyder with you, help with cleaning and maintenance might result in better self-esteem and confidence/behavior on his part you'd be making progress. Gotta walk before you run; see what happens. YMMV.

I don't want to steer anyone away from the Spyder but if you really need to take him and the wife at the same time get an 1800 and a Hannigan or CSC or Champion sidecar to hang on it. If you want to hang on to the Spyder look for an older Wing a 1200 or 1500. lots of good ones out there for under $5000. There are used sidecars out there as well,so you should be able to put something together for under $10000.
I don't think you can put a sidecar on a Spyder for several reasons
The Spyder is already a 3 track vehicle a sidecar will add a 4th track.
Too wide
The Spyder has a central spar frame with no real way to put the out riggers that a sidecar needs for a solid non flexible mount. You would need to build a substantial perimeter sub frame.

Now I also know that if you throw enough time and money at something you can make it work. You can't get the time back so go the quick way and start helping that kid turn around.

If you are serious, I would give
California Sidecar company or Hannagon
and ask them if it can and or should be done
I am with the other poster saying it would be to wid
You may have to become a 2 Spyder family

Have to agree

Once you get to four tires, it's a car. Take the kid and put it in a car seat and drive the car. Enjoy the "air", enjoy the radio, enjoy the "kid", but most importantly, remember you are in a car.

FYI kid is a 15 year old boy with a bad attitude!

Our 8 yr old grandson pillions happily - and obeys all our rules'n'regulations! I guess you are saying - you, pillion and the 15 yr old on one spyder?? hence sidecar idea... Reckon your solutions are a) one rides with 15 yr old, one doesn't (or rides another bike? or car?) b) buy an extra spyder ($$?) c) miss out on rides and use the car... I personally don't like 'c' option INCLUDING for the effect on the 15 yr old, and guess that's why you're asking the question... But I agree the sidecar would make the vehicle too wide. Could be good bonding - the old ride-to-a-coffee-shop and back again thing. Our grandson treasures all his motorbike gear (helmet, gloves, jacket, boots etc) and can't wait for a suitable time for a ride!

I ride with people on trikes (2 wheels at back), some of which have 2 side-by-side seats behind the driver.. could be an option?

 Regardless of the social implications; what would you hook the sidecar to? :dontknow:
At the very least; you'd lose a side storage compartment...
The Spyder is a fantastic Reverse-Trike...
But as a four-wheeler? Probably not so much.
Get a second Spyder, and teach the kid to park his 'tude; before any riding commences.

i would love to have a third seat option to take both my wife and kid on the spyder. Right now i have to leave one at home. I dont think a side car will work though as everyone says it would be too wide and by the time you threw enough money at it to make it work you could buy another spyder. That 15 year old will be able to drive one in just another year. What i think about is the banana seat is pretty much almost long enough to get three on there just like their waverunner seats. If they modified a seat could you get 3 on? Is there any legal or not legal about that?

Get a 622 Trailer.
Rumor has it, that Lamont can fit in one!
Pictures do exist... Does anybody have them? :dontknow:
