• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Here's some Weird Misinformation about Spyder RT's!!

When anyone asked me how fast one of my bikes would go.
I always gave the same answer.
It goes fast enough that I can scare myself.

That's called "common sense"!

Nah, in my case, it's got a lot more to do with the noise that emanates from the back of the bike whenever she's aboard... and the kidney punches! 😣

Only (and I'm betting that this is contrary to the expectations of most of you ;)) the noise I'm referring to goes something like this...

"Faster! Can't you go faster!! We've been stopped going faster than this before, so Go Faster!" 😖

Gotta Love the Lady, and she still puts up with me too, even after 45+ years... 😁 But altho she's just a little thing, she does add a bit of extra weight to the Spyder, and that slows it down a tad! 😋

Oh, and we've got some nice tracks nearby that have open days &/or private hire; and there's also some reeeaaaly loooong, straight, flat, roads here Down Under too; and a State (well, a 'Territory' actually ) where the 'Open Road Speed Limit' can be a little open to interpretation, if you want to risk it! Not that there's usually too many other vehicles &/or people within 100 miles or so on those roads anyway. ;)

Same here, altho funnily enough, my Spyder will go faster with just me on it than it will with me and the Child Bride on the pillion seat... 😳
Does the Spyder just not want to go faster, or is the Child Bride throttling your enthusiastic riding style? 🤣

I normally cruise at 70 - 75 mph, even in the 80 mph limit zones. It seems inherently happiest at about those speeds. I did once try to see how fast it actually would go, on a private road of course, but it does seem to feel a little like the nose is starting to occasionally get a bit light and floaty at much over 85.

I think the RT LTD looks aerodynamic in design, but it probably really isn't. It feels like when you go over humps in the freeway and the suspension unloads at the front a bit, the air gets underneath and any ground effect it did have it no longer does making it have that nervous kind of feeling. My steering tracks true and it handles well so I think it's probably down to aerodynamics rather than any inherent geometry problems.

I'm sure with better front shocks and possibly more than 16 to 18 psi in the fronts it might be a little happier at higher speeds but the reality is it becomes a little like trying to shove a garden shed along sideways. It's not really designed for high speed cruising, unlike the motorcycles I had before it, but taking in the view is part of the experience. Making me slow down in my old age is probably not a bad thing either.
