• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

High pitched noise

There is a high pitched noise coming from my Spyder ST Ltd when it's parked up in the garage, I'm high tone deaf so I can't hear it, but my son heard it tonight when everything was quiet in the garage.
Is this common ? anyone else notice it on their Spyder ?

There is a shut down process which can be heard for a while after shutting down the engine. Computer electronics comes in various sounds from what I have read. Time also varies but it does go away. :thumbup:
 
According to the ST manual, the high pitch sound you are hearing is the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC). The motor stays energized for 40 minutes after turning the ignition to off. It will emit a high frequency sound during this 40 minute period and is a normal thing. I always hear it after turning my bike off. Hope that helps!

It certainly does help, it would explain why the noise disappeared later on, I have read the ST manual, but must have missed that bit.

Yes, its normal according to BRP but I never understood WHY. Automobile throttle bodies do not stay energized for 40 minutes after the bike is shut down. Its not like the throttle has anywhere to go. The engine is not running, the bike is off. Have always thought it very annoying as I CAN hear the sound very clearly. Its annoying enough that if I turn the bike on to move it, I will generally go back inside before working on it to allow time for it to turn off or pull the battery cable. Have thought of installing a battery disconnect just for this reason.
 
From what I have read its the computer keeping the throttle plate completely closed for 40 minutes to aid in quicker hot starting. I assume this is to keep any existing gasoline from evaporating because of engine heat.
 
:agree: This fix was developed for the 2011 model year; some 2010s didn't like to fire right up after a partial cool-down.

Once it FINALLY quits if you touch the throttle it starts back to the noise fora few minutes. Anyone figured out how to get it to air sooner?
