Doesn't surprise me at all. I've seen eggs sitting in the back rooms or stores for hrs, not in a cooler. Good friend of mine is the diary manager of a large supermarket. Some of the things they do is scarry.

Interesting though, if you raise your own yard birds, don't wash the eggs off. There's a coating on them that protects them. Once washed off they must be refrigerated.

I've heard you can coat fresh eggs in clear nail polish and they'll last a very long time without refrigeration.
