In the market for a new trike

Well as the title states the wife and I are in the market for a new trike. We have owned 2 Spyders in the past and had good luck with one and bad luck with the 2010 RTS. With that said we are looking at the Harley Davidson Triglide, the Honda Goldwing and maybe the 2014 Spyder RT SM6. I know it is early in the year and probably not too many 2014's out on the road yet to tell what if any problems with the RT's are going to have to be worked out yet but would like to hear from the one's that have them and what are your opinions good and bad so far.
We are doing our homework now and are in no big hurry to buy and are going to test ride the Harley Triglide soon and the Goldwing CSC trike later and if I can talk the wife in to it the Spyder RT SM6.
Thanks in advance for any and all info.
Toby

Ride as many as you think you would like to buy. Then decide. I think most on here will attest to. The Dealer makes a huge difference in Spyder ownership feelings.
I am probably the middle or so on milesage. 38 K total on a 2008 GS/RS and a 2010 RT.(slowing down due to age last couple years) No real problems with either one.
Good Luck and safe riding

Here's the thing..!!

in the end it will all be in the test ryde. Looks bells and whistles can be added adjusted or eliminated. The two are different so test them for sure. Reports and reviews are rolling in on the 2014 RT and so far the only negative grumblings are cosmetic and adjustable. Good luck and hope you find the one for you both..!!

Test drives should help you determine which is best for you. If you are looking at 2014's--the jury is out on all brands. Four to six months and a lot of rider miles will determine good, bad, or ugly. IMO!

This is very true, that's why we are asking questions about all 3 of the trikes we are interested in and doing our homework as they are very expensive and we do not want to be a test pilot for anyone if we can avoid it. I understand that all will have some issues but want to avoid the bad or most costly ones if at all possible.
Thanks,
Toby

I note that your unhappiness with the brand had to do with the 2010 RTS. I have had exactly the opposite experience with mine. Going on 36K no problem miles now and am planning on trading for a new 2014 RT-S in the spring. I now also own a 2011 RT A&C with 10K no problem miles on it.

The 2013 year had many issues. 2014 appears to be a good year for the RT. Bigger engine, 6 speed gearbox, smoother operations etc. So far, the reviews have been good (all five or so). Time will tell--but I am going with a new 2014.

Personally, have never owned either a tri glide or a gold wing trike. I did test sit a tri glide when they first came out. The ergos did not fit me well, and it took to much effort for me to work the controls. That, plus the high price being asked, was enough to make me walk. GW trikes lose the manufacturers warranty and the dealer here will not work on any GW that has been triked. Strike two for me on the "other trike" syndrome.

Now, with almost 100K miles total on four different :spyder2:'s, no major mechanical issues, and a dealer that knows what they are doing--I think you can guess which one I recommend. I am biased at this point--but guess that is why I am on SL's site.

I also like the amenities that the RT comes with and feel that of the three trikes mentioned it comes in $ comparable to a full blown GW and less expensive than the HD.

Good luck with your hunt.

Harley made some changes this year to the Tri-G; but the feel of the controls, is just as heavy and clunky as ever...
The liquid-cooled heads show promise... but they put the radiators in the bottom of the fairing lowers... right in front of the rider's feet!
(Does Spyderpops make an HD block-off plate too? :roflblack:)

I will be selling ym 2012 RTS for a 2014 RTS SM6

if anyone knows anyone interested in a 2012 RTS pleas let me know

I use to be a HD rider all the way, then I rode a Spyder. After reading about all the safety built-in to it I traded my HD and so much happier now. I can now ride and feel safer than ever. All to their own but I would not trade my 2013 RT Limited Spyder for a Tri Glide, straight up!

It's going to be what ever you feel comfortable on and with. I test drove the Tri Glide in 2010 before we bought the 2010 RTS. I didn't like it. Didn't like the way it drove or handled. Price point was higher than the RTS, but workable. I didn't get to test drive a wing, none of the dealers around here would let me. The price on the wing, IMHO, was too high. Even a pre owned was way out there. And the dealers didn't want to talk about the price. Anyway, that's my input. It's up to you and I wish you the best with what ever you decide.

Route 1 Motorsports has 2014 RT's in stock! We also have a 2003 Goldwing trike coming in next week!

No question you're the best person to ask. I've like your opinions so far.
