Installing Gloryders on RT-622 trailer

I'm having a hitch installed at Cowtown during SypderFest 2012 and picking up my new trailer from the same. We are waiting to see all the mods and talk to the owners about likes and dislikes before we start our list of 'things to break the bank'. I talked with Gloryder over the phone last night about ordering two sets. One for our RT and one for the RT-622 trailer. In the photos I've seen the wheels look identical from the bike to the trailer. I asked him if they would install the same way as on the bike, itself. He said that the space under the dust covers are more shallow and that the Gloryder would have to be modified to fit properly. He also mentioned that several people on this site are in the process of trying to do this and that this is where I should start asking questions about install modifications.

So, has anyone successfully installed Gloryders on an RT-622 trailer with any success and what needs to be done to do it?

Many thanks in advance,
Kevin

I know I just saw a write up on this topic that someone had just installed them on the trailer. I'll see if I can find it and post the link.

Here you go. Should of remembered it was Phil that did this mod. I subscribe to his thread for help when I install Mod's to the wifes RT-S. He a litterally every mod you can think of and then some. Its on page 4

Thanks a lot M109Dreamer, for sure. From what I've seen, Phil and Lamonster do a bang up job. I have 27 years with GM, but doing mods is an all new science for me. This site has proven to be the 'go to' source for anything Spyder.

Again- sorry for my falling down on my SpyderLover's job :) The day job got in the way :sour: I've PM'd Kevorama. Thanks for the help with getting the links to him.

We have everything in place to bring this monster to Cuba and we are expecting fully to be in Durango with it also.

I found it easier just to subscribe to your thread. Has answered 99% of all my questions so far with modding the Spyder.

Now if you could just do videos of each mod and post them up. That would be awesome...LOL :joke:

Help With GloRyder Colors

For those of you that are currently rocking GloRyder's, please weigh in. Our bike is a Viper Red RT-SE5 - 2011, adding them to the trailer as soon as it comes in. My wife has one color in mind and I have another. I don't know how accurate the colored pics on their site is. If you've seen them on other bikes and don't have them, that's fine. Let me know what looked good in person.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have purple. I'd say the color is accurate. I also have white. It may be obvious, but I'll say it.... Purple is very dim and subtle compared to white :)

I finally broke down and ordered my first mods for our Spyder. I started with 2 extra pairs of dust covers for the RT-622 trailer wheels (in case I botched the GloRyder install, big time). I wanted to have a set of caps for long trips and be able to pop those out and put the GloRyder's in once we were at our destination. At $185 a pair I'd hate to lose one or both between points A and B. Kudos to Phil for that insight.

I contacted Will at the GloRyder Wheel Light Sales Dept. and ordered 2 sets of the billet aluminum (1 set for bike and 1 set for trailer) in red and also purchased the LED internal guts in purple (it looks really nice on Phil's Spyder) and green. I thought we might want to change them from time to time. I can't say enough about working and talking with the nice folks at GloyRyder (Automiq Power & Light, LLC). Never has customer service and satisfaction been so obvious right out of the gate! I will definitely purchase from this company again in the future and they are looking at some new mods for the Spyder. Sometime in 2012 they are hoping to have a remote system that they can offer to us. How cool would that be to be able to turn your wheels off and on remotely, or put them in breath mode to go with your accent lighting! Fantastic job, guys

And it is part no. 11 @ $5.99 each and I don't think that the decal is necessary, part #12 @ $7.49 each as the GloRyder will cover anything else that is on the cap.

FANTASTIC Kev!!
They are on par with Cowtown when it comes to customer service. Great folks.

I get the challenge of making the lights remote controllable. The receiver needs to be on almost all the time. I've wondered about some way to connect a mini-USB recharge?? The challenge would be keeping it sealed in a way that won't go flying away as the wheel turns. They're super bright guys. They may figure it out :)

Hey Phil, just a thought, and it's probably going to get to the point of not being cost effective, but I remember seeing something on semi trailers where the outer cap didn't spin. I'm assuming it was an odometer of sorts for the trailer. It must have been weighted and very lubricated to keep friction and heat from spinning it with the wheel. Since LED's don't require a ton of power I was wondering if the same technique could be employed that would act almost like a mini alternator that could store energy in a Li-Po. The Spyder logo cap could run on a race of ball bearings, maybe? Just throwing it out there.

On the RT trailer mod for the GloRyder, I was going to take one of the BRP dust caps into one of my machinists and see if he can replicate it out of T6 so that it's a little more stout than the original. I had mentioned the same to Will and he asked me to keep him in the loop on how it turns out. I'm waiting for my extra caps to come in from Can-AM, they shipped today. I'll let you know if anything successful comes from it.

Sounds like a good plan on the caps. I'll also be curious......

I've also seen those things on trucks, especially in other countries. I always thought it was an inflator?!

I know the brains at GloRyder have kicked around mini generators and I think small solar PV elements. But I believe nothing has ended up in the practical vs good cost vs compact cross point of the curve.

My spare sets of dust covers for the RT-622 trailer came in yesterday and I'm hoping that my GloRyders show today. I'll definitely have them ready to pop on by SpyderFest!
