• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

It was bound to happen...

My first failed mod. No improvisation. No plan b.

The object was to install an inline amp to boost audio.
The amp is an Alpine KTP-445 slimline. Highly recognize for solving my objective.

I hooked up the ground, red and yellow to the switched power on my PC-8 EasternBeaver fuse box.
I reviewed the wiring diagrams again for the bike and the amp.

I pulled the right side panel off and got to the radio. I pull the main connector out. Damn its huge. some 34 or so pins. I located pins 2 and 3, which are the left front speakers. I connected the matching left front amp wires to the one coming out from the radio and the other amp wires to leads going to the speaker. I switched on the bike. Sound from only 3. drats. I fiddled with the wires. nada. I went into the bike menus and set the fader to full forward. still no left side sound. I swicthed the wires around, no sound anywhere... I looks liks some kind of grounding issue shuts off the radio output. I put the wires back the way thay should be. still no left side sound, right side is working.

I dont think the mod gods are in my favor tonight.

For those that want the wiring diagrams;

Bummer! Your theory is 100% correct and it does sound like something happened with the ground side. When I connected to the back speakers (L&R) for my BlueTooth audio mod, I was really concerned about the +/- on the speakes. It APPEARS however that the audio output is a 'floating' type. I say that because it appeared that I could do most ANYTHING with the output (flipping around the polarity) and it continued to work, going into my mixer.

Curious- before going into your amp- did you go through a Scoshe level converter box or similar? The times I've used them, they also seem to help isolate the speaker level output to the amp input and isolate channel to channel.

I'd love to follow your fix and ultimate triumph! Hollar if you want to bounce ideas. I'm by no means an audio expert, but I have done my share of car amps, and other audio stuff through the years....

Because I wanted to TEST that the amp would work before i cut any more wires.

The only wire I did NOT hook up anywhere was the blue (antenea) wire form the amp.
