• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Manual transmission question

I have a 2011 RT-M, I got it about 2 months ago. Ever since I've had it, I've noticed that when I'm stopped and shift to first, it clunks, like the clutch hasn't really stopped the transmission completely. Is that normal ? In a car or pickup, if you push in the clutch it will stop transmission completely. Someone said its normal for the wet clutch. It doesn't creep forward when I stop and hold the clutch in, at a light. Thanks

:agree: SM or SE: it's just what they do...
As long as it's not creeping on you; you're good to go!

But be sure to change the clutch fluid according to the maintenance schedule...

The difference is a bike has a multi disc wet clutch which means it is is in oil. That causes some drag which loads the transmission a car has a dry clutch which has a more compete disengagement

Agree...

Your will always get the clunk in first and reverse and the rotainting engine engaes the idel transmission. Once the transmission gears are spinning then they mesh nicely. Very common on big twins.....

Unsynchronized straight cut gears. Its normal.

Like Bob said, it's normal for the clunk, but also, verify the last time the clutch fluid was changed. It gets nasty if not maintained as scheduled.

I don't think the scheduled changes are enough personally. But that's another topic. I thought the "clunk" was odd too, but every bike I've had, had some degree of it. Check and change the clutch fluid, it makes for smoother shifts. :ohyea:
