There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Mirror extension install - What not to do!

Well I got the Kewl Metal mirror extensions last week and the Kurykan ISO grips and I decided today to go ahead and do the install.

All started out well, with a little grunting and some elbow grease the grips went right on. Look great!

So on to the mirror extensions. I get all the need tools out and pull my Madstad shield so it is out of the way. I pull the bolts and onto the bushings.

I had my easy outs and got one in there real snug. Tried rocking it slightly, a little WD-40, a punch underneath with a rubber mallet to push up, but it was not budging.

So I go back up top and give it a few more cranks on the easy out and that is when I hear CCCRRRAAAACCCKKKKK!!! :yikes:

No good, thought I had cracked the bushing. No such luck that little bastard was as strong as the day it was born.

I had cracked my mirror end and it dropped right out of the mirror mount. :opps:

GREAT! :cus: DAMN! :cus: SOB! :cus: ....

Sure that is going to be a pretty penny and the insult on top of the injury is the damn bushing is still hanging strong and still stuck in there. I do not even want to know how long this is going to take to ship.

Talk about a kill joy! :opps:

I hate it when that happens hope it all works out well keep us posted.

But dont let that get you down S*&^ happens to all of us.

Thanks for the encouragement, much appreciated.

So after a few breaths and a cold one I go down to the garage and have a run at the other mirror. Figured I need to know how many I should order!

Well the other one comes off smooth as silk with a couple of wiggles on the easy off and a little push from underneath.

My cables were too short so I pulled the gauge cluster and let out some slack. I have to admit those boys at Kewl Metal got the finish perfect! The left hand side looks beautiful and is all assembled now looking like it came off the assembly line.

That damn right-side bushing still will not come out. It is like super man pressed it in there right after he made that diamond from coal.

When I done mine I started off using an easy-out that was too long..going all the way thru the bushing and into the metal..got tight real quick.. got a bigger easy-out and finished okay....

I had a real tight one and had to put the Easy-Out in, then turn the whole thing over and hammering the Easy-out lightly, while I kept tension on it by turning it lightly with my tap wrench.

Wow, sorry to hear about the difficulty. We have changed the finish on our mirror extensions to match perfectly the textured finish of the Spyder. We also lowered the price and will be coming out with a new improved version that requires a little more machining that will sell for the original price when it's ready. I have some of the updated extensions I want to bolt to my Spyder, but one of my bushings is stuck as well (but mine have been in and out 10 times)! And of course, Can-Am does not sell the bushing separately if I destroy it when I take it out. I will probably be machining some replacement bushings just to have some for anybody who has trouble. But so far, nobody has asked for one and there are a boat load of mirror extensions out there already installed.

Mad Matt

I had a similar problem with one of my bushings. But, instead of driving the easy out in further, which seems to expand the bushing, I backed it out a little and then rocked it some and then pulled it out.

I used a tap (don't remember what size) and threaded it into the bushing and then used a pair of vice grips on the tap and pulled the bushing out while the tap was threaded into the bushing...this worked for me..larryd

Well I called the dealer and got it on order yesterday. One full mirror assembly with light and wiring is running about $167.

No fun!
