• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Moving the iPod plug.....

Has anyone moved the iPod plug from the rear trunk to somewhere else on the RT?

I'm really thinking it would be more convenient in the small glove box......

Speaking of which.... does anyone actually use the foam liner thingy that came in the glove box---- not sure what purpose it serves-- but it takes up extra space I'd rather have for wallet, sunglasses, phone, etc.....

Now I mounted my garage door opener in the foam "thingie". Knifed hole in it big enough for a tight fit and it's a good as gold! :2thumbs:
So it can be modified to serve a purpose...

Mounted my opener in there too. With the foam insert removed. Stuck it to the front vertical panel with double sided tape. Works fine. Just cautious about what I store in there because of the heat.

The insurance guy in me said to leave it in place; they put it there for some reason other than to just use up precious cargo room...
So instead; I just make a big hole in it and expose the electronics within the opener to all of the heat! :gaah: I must be dumber than a pail full of wet hair!

Hardly!! However, if you had said you kept your chap stick in there.....well :joke:

Since you can control the IPod from your handle bar controls why would you want to relocate it? I velcroed mine to the inside wall of the rear trunk. I'm thinking the heat in the 'glove' box would be bad news for the circuitry in the IPod, even if you left the foam insulation in place.

I bet keeping the iPod in the glovebox would net you iToast in short order.
I agree with Roger...the glovebox is no place for electronics. It is an oven that cooks things from both sides.

The early 2010 RTs didn't have the liner. I removed the one on my 2011 immediately. Like you, I preferred the extra room.

I ran mine with out the insulation in the glove box and ended up putting it back, way too much heat.

Never taken my tupperware off, is there insulation on the underside of the glovebox?

Interesting thoughts and opinions.

I'm not a fan of how the iPod interface works--- in particular it won't let me change to another artist, etc while in motion.

I may not be running my iPhone thru it-- may be other electronics instead (gps, radar detector, etc. )
Just wondered if anyone had moved the plug yet.

I like the idea of running an extension to another location...... Best of both worlds

Yep. Check out my mods post Dan. One of the first things I did. Only thing I would do differently is soldered connections rather than the crimps. But has worked well for over a year!

Edit. One more thing I would do differently is to put the plug in the speaker grill like Scotty did with his power outlet. Those are cheap to replace if you want to do something differently down the road. Problem is, I didn't see the professor's setup until I had finished mine. :(
