Music options? Anyone

I'm not a big fan of the external speaker setup on bikes or Spyders, so what options are out there to go directly to the helmets. I have been using my Zumo 660 and Cardo on the 09 Spyder, but I am just pondering other choices. Is there a way to bluetooth the music from the 2010 RTS to a helmet. I am a total noob at the bluetooth stuff. Thanks for any ideas...Dave

I know there is a helmet called V-Tune that I have been looking at. It has built in speakers, microphone, and blue tooth. It is a full face helmet and also has the flip down half sun shield in it. It retails for about $225 or so.

I am keeping my 2009 Spyder and use my MP3 player with a set of Ear Fuze headphones, www.earfuze.com .

I am not worried about the Blue Tooth for now, as I don't plan on answering my phone while I am ryding anyway.

I ride with a ipod in jacket pocket with headphone and a wireless remote on handle bar, (don't like wires) having a good headphone does filter out most of the road noise even when I am not playing music all of the helmets that has built in speakers just does not sound as good as a good pair of headphones. Don't care about GPS voice instruction and don't want to chat on cell while riding.

I'm not too keen on the external speakers, either. We prefer wired systems, although I must be truthful and say we have no experience with Bluetooth. For us, the headphone speakers with our Starcom1 comm systems work great. The Starcom1 hooks right up to an iPod or similar source. Much better sound in the helmet headsets than from external speakers, whose sound is broken up by wind noise at road speeds. Variable volume based on background noise, great noise reduction circuitry, and a good VOX system for rider-to-rider communications. We have had a little difficulty with our bike-to-bike setup, but that appears to be rooted in the FRS/GMRS radios we selected. We will try different radios this year. I'm adding a third Starcom1, for the new RT-S. Splendid systems!

You're correct.

If I want good quality music I use my iphone/ipod in my pocket and Skullcandy earbuds. The problem with ebuds is if you spend a couple of days on the road your ears start to hurt from the buds.

It would be cool if I could somehow hook the ipod in and control it from the RT but still be able to use the earbuds. I haven't tried this yet but I may be able to plug the ipod into the RT and then run my earbuds off of the ipod. It may still come through the speakers but at least I could control the volume and tracks....maybe. :dontknow:

That was my understanding, too...per my dealer.

The CB is the only way right now but there is no bluetooth on it. Someone will come out with a bluetooth transmitter that will plug into the plug were your helmet wire go's soon.

CB and Comm System

Dealer told me Friday that they show a March 14 ship date although they may get to BRP sooner. So we may not see them for several weeks.

FYI, for those that ordered the XM but no CB there is a separate harness that needs to be ordered to connect the radio, XM and entertainment wiring harnesses. It has the passenger headset outlet but no locking ring or flip cap which the dealer believes only comes with the CB intercom kit. So the driver headset connector that goes under the dash probably comes with the CB unit and the locking rings and flip caps.

Once I get the rear harness installed this week I'll use that and pages from the service manual that show the pinout for the MP3 player input and my helmet headset to figure out the lines to use to input radar into the left ear of the driver headset only.
