• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Has anyone had experience with a My Best Buddy Cargo Trailer XL?

I will only be using the trailer a few times a year and don't want to spend a lot of money on something that will set around most of the year. The small size will make storing it easier under my deck easier. In the video it looks like it might bounce around a little. I don't know much about of well a "Trosion" Axle works on a trailer. I do know that the Harbor Freight trailers use the leaf springs which will give a hard ride.

Thanks for any input!

Harbor Freight Trailer

Like you I don't tow my trailer that much, and can't see the need to spend big bucks on it. I bought a Harbor Freight Trailer (4 x 4), mounted a car-top cargo box from Sears to it, and towed it 1860 miles in August when I went to SITR. I rode two up, averaged 75 MPH, but a couple times had to go as fast as 85 to catch up to the group with no trouble at all. Another guy in the group had the Tag-a-long by HF and he told me that he has gone over 5000 miles with no trouble. He removed one of the leaf springs to make it smoother (I think he said the small one). I did not use the tag-a-long because the tag-a-long uses 8 inch wheels while the 4x4 uses 12 inch wheels. Also if I need to I can remove the cargo box and have a flat-bead trailer.

After I finished putting it together, and did some test pulling I did notice the trailer did bounce when empty. It still did it when I put in about 30 lbs, but once I loaded it up for the trip I did not notice any bouncing at all. Also, the bouncing was up and down, not side to side, so the Spyder was not shook around. When empty or full the trailer pulled so smooth that I would forget it was there except when going over bumps, but that is expected.

If you are looking for function, and not looks I would go with the HF trailer. One thing also is if you are going to paint it like I did. Use something to make the paint stick to the plastic, so it does not peel off.

It looks very similar to the Harbour Freight trailer, maybe a better suspension.

The HF @ $300 is hard to beat, I removed one leaf from both sides when I built it and that with low air pressure it rides quit smooth.

I have taken it on many small trips and can't tell its back there.

Its lots lighter than most trailers so you can really fill it up with stuff and still be within the Spyder weight limit.

Torsion Axles

Have no fear of Torsion Axles, I have owned and pulled many Trailers Hundreds of thousands of miles. I allways specify Torsion Axles.:ohyea:

Small trailer

Thanks for all the replies :2thumbs:

I have a Harbor Freight just down the road and had seen these options in other posts. I have thought about just using the HF trailer with the 12" wheels but by the time I was done I would have almost the same money in it as this Best Buddy trailer. I do like that the Best Buddy had an aluminum frame and torsion axles and that the total weight is less than the HF trailer does alone. The HF trailer would give me the option of taking the car carrier off if needed.

:dontknow:

I'll have to work up the price for both options.

I bought a car top carrier found a welder to build me a trailer to fit the carrier. Have been using it since I had my goldwing and now it gets towed behind my spyder. Of course I did change the color to match my spyder.

I picked up a HF with a 20% discount, put a set of 12 inch wheels on it, and still have less than $400 in it. Thinking of getting a Northern Tool 500 pound torsion set and hubs for it, a little welding and some LED lights, and I'll still have less then $700 in it, and it tows really nicely.
