We'll it has only been a few days of riding my new spyder and already have almost at 1000 miles.
This is my fourth spyder as I started with a 2008 GS that I got in early November 2007 as one of the first owners in NY and traded in with just over 27k miles. I then went to the 2011 RSS and loved the improvements they made in 3 years. But when the 2013 STS came out I had to have it as I like staying up with the latest and greatest. Since May I put 6300 miles on it and again loved every minute of it.
This 2014 is absolutely the best spyder that BRP has manufactured! This Wednesday and Thursday did 675 miles going down to Lamont's with a good friend. We both have the 2014 RT's. BRP has really listened to their customers and made the best improvements. This 1330 engine is so smooth along with the 6 speed transmission. We did some back roads on the way down from central Virginia to Tennessee and amazed for a larger spyder how this handled on the corners. It handled better than any of my 3 spyder including with modifications that I did like sway bars or Elka suspension. The only issue I found is that when you are riding for 2+ hours in 30-40 degree weather at 75mph you miss the heat that use to come off the spyder. I have baker air wings to install this weekend and that should help at least my knees from getting cold which really my only issue.
So anyone looking to buy a new spyder I would highly recommend saving yourself the time of having to upgrade a 2013 and got other 2014. It will be worth the money spent.
I have done a few upgrades before this trip that did help. I installed the Tall F4 customs windshield with vent as I am 6'4" and I think the width of the shield makes the biggest difference over the height. I have also installed the Ultimate touring seat with backrest. I have had many seats for my previous spyders but this seat has proven already that it is far superior for me than any others. My friend kept complaining his butt hurt and I said mine feels great..... Let's ride
.
I also wanted to thank Lamont for doing the laser alignment as he is the master at this. I was amazed at the difference as I thought my brand new spyder didn't need one. I also am very impressed in his NVB highway pegs that get installed as again I have had several brands before but these ARE absolutely the best ones!
And last but not least is that Baja Ron came over to install his sway bar and again we'll worth the money spent on this upgrade! Thanks again Ron!
So in a little over a week I leave for Daytona Bike week and look forward to almost two weeks of great riding on my new 2014 Spyder RTS in hopefully the sunny state of Florida!
Thanks,
Shawn
