Never Say a Spyder Can't Flip

It opened for me.
It's a white Spyder pulling a trailer that swerved sharply to the left, then flipped and rolled.
The video does not capture the reason for the swerve, as the bike was already sideways when it appeared at the bottom of the video.

The video is from an Arkansas Department of Transportation camera on I-30.
The information about the video says it happened at mile marker 132.1.
The video description says: Two Injured After Trike Riders Flip & Are Crushed By Their Own Motorcycle

Lots of people stopped to help, and emergency personnel showed up at the 9:20 mark and were from a fire truck that then pulled into the picture blocking the traffic lanes.
Most of the people that had stopped headed back to their cars when the emergency personnel showed up.

Comments speculated that they might have blown a tire before the accident.

The video clip will not open for me.

You can search YouTube for the following: (HORROR) Arkansas: Two Injured After Trike Riders Flip & Are Crushed By Their Own Motorcycle

I wish I could make out the tag on the trailer and maybe have an idea who it is. Looks like it happened 2024-10-10 12:02 PM CDT and was first posted yesterday.

The Spyder was sliding sideways when the video first started and the reason for that wasn't shown. Curious why the Police drove right by the accident at the 4:01 mark and didn't stop.....?

There were a lot of comments discussing the police car that didn't stop.
There were two lines of speculation:

1) car was being test driven by a repair tech
2) car was transporting a prisoner

EXACTLY what I thought! That police car never stopped. Guess he didn't think it odd that a huge flatbed truck/trailer was dead stopped in the road? Or that a bunch of vehicles were stopped alongside the road? Very strange...

After going back over the first few frames of the vid reeeeaaaallly slow, I don't really think that is the case - at least not either of the front tires, and even if the rear tire blew out catastrophically, surely it shouldn't (couldn't?? :dontknow: ) make the Spyder flip?! Then when the Spyder settles back upright at about 0:10, if you look closely, maybe even expand the image out, it's pretty apparent that both front wheels are still at least partially inflated, as you can see them keeping the rims off the asphalt! However, the left front wheel IS at an acute angle, one not normally reached when the steering gear is still attached - maybe a failure there?? Or maybe that was damaged in the flip?? :dontknow:

As for it maybe being a tire blow-out on the trailer, check it out about 4:16 - 4:22, when the fella in the dark clothes rolls the trailer off the carriageway - it's pretty clear from that section of vid that both trailer wheels are still inflated - a trailer really won't move like that when pushed backwards with one or both tires flat, not even if the guy pushing it is the Hulk!

So I'd surmise that there was something else that happened back a little just before the sliding Spyder comes into frame. Maybe steering, maybe a wheel hit something?? Who knows what that was - I guess we won't know unless some more detail is released on what caused it!

But it does look pretty drastic for the couple concerned, I do hope they're OK. Anyone found anything more about them/their progress? :dontknow:

I think the Spyder flipped because something forced it to go sideways, what caused that is the real question.

Google still only finds the video, with no other details yet.

I believe something caused the trailer to step out on them, which pulled the rear end of the Spyder around. Could have been dodging something in the road, could have been a misalignment of the asphalt highway to concrete bridge joint that bounced the trailer at an angle …. Who knows. Prayers sent up for the ryders and their families.

I suspect that the trailer had a lot to do with it. I'm not the most aggressive rider on my Spyder, but I often take curves faster than virtually any of the four wheelers around me, and I have yet to have any problem at all, let alone a feeling that I might flip the trike. I'm not delusional about the safety of my Spyder, but I know that it is far safer, and far less likely to ever leave me sliding down the pavement as any of the two wheeled motorcycles that I have ever owned. For me, giving up the leaning in curves was in reality a very small price to pay for the stability, comfort and overall riding experience of the RT.

Very scary to watch but if you want to flip your spyder, just cut the wheels and do a quick take-off from a stop and hold your breath.

When I do that my back tire breaks loose and drifts until it gets lined back up with the fronts and then we are off and running.

It looks like something from the trailer digs deeply into the asphalt as they slide by. There are 3 deep scratch marks that weren't there before they pass. There is something drastically wrong with the left wheel and they are already sliding when they come into view. I think the lip of the overpass caught them and caused them to flip. The passenger looks to be conscious and mobile but the driver isn't moving. I hope they both come thru alive.
