Odyssey PC680 or Motobatt MBTX24U

Odyssey PC680 or Motobatt MBTX24U ---- which battery is best for the spyder? I figure since I have the spyder all in pieces I might as well replace the battery. My current battery is almost 4 years old and although might last a while yet, I'm still going to replace it.

THE GREAT BATTERY DEBATE

I won't tell you what to buy ....I have done that in the past.....But the specs on these Battery's puts the Motobatt way ahead of the PC680.....and it costs less and it has a better warranty......Littlebadwolf can give you a direct thread.........mike......

I found the Odyssey for 114.00 free shipping and the motobatt for 115.87 free shipping. I was just curious about the "fit" and which is easiest to install.

I had an Odyssey PC-680 that lasted over 7 years on my BMW R1100RT and it often sat for more than a month without being ridden and without a battery tender. It was still on it when I sold it but the new owner has since replaced it with a new PC-680. I've never had a motorcycle battery last anywhere near that long before so, with the Spyder's sensitivity to low voltage conditions, I had the dealer put a PC-680 on my 2010 RT when they assembled it. It's still doing well. I can't comment on the Motobatt since I haven't used one but the Odyssey is a very good battery.

I agree with bikeguy. I have the pc680 and went one step further by purchasing the specific charger for it. I've heard the spec.'s for other batteries being quoted as better than the pc680; is that the best way to choose your battery; I don't know.

Again, can't comment on the Motobatt as I've never run one....but ran PC-680's for years on VMax's without a bit of trouble. When the time comes to replace my OEM battery it will be with an Odyssey.

FIT AND POWER

I found the Odyssey for 114.00 free shipping and the motobatt for 115.87 free shipping. I was just curious about the "fit" and which is easiest to install.

THEY BOTH FIT THE SAME.......AS FAR AS STRENGTH/POWER PC680 = 16 AMP/HR @ 220 CCA ,.........MOTOBATT = 25 AMP/HR @ 350 CCA ...........NOW YOU PICK THE BETTER BATTERY

What conditions are the CCA measured for the motobatt?

Are they the same conditions as for the pc680?

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/odyssey101.htm#cca

According to the above link, the CCA may not be all that important. Also, the motobatt that the OP listed has CCA 285.

If you start your Spyder a lot at 32 degree's or less I would be concerned about the CCA rating.....Otherwise a more accurate measure of the strength of a given battery is the AMP / HOURS IMHO......I'm not selling Motobatt's,I'm giving out specs......do whatever you want with the info. ACTUALLY DO NOT ...REPEAT...DO NOT USE EITHER OF THESE BECAUSE IT WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY....ACCORDING TO BRP...HAPPY NOW

How would installing a new battery void your warranty. :dontknow:

I think that was just sarcasm thrown my way.

I just thought it was interesting what odyssey had to say about CCA. I don't care what someone else uses. I was just passing info that I found.

He didn't inhale ether, But what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?.:ohyea::ohyea:

A friend of mine builds battery chemistry monitoring and trending hardware and software for large UPS installations used in telco central offices, cell sites, etc. He knows batteries inside and out for 20+ years. He's also a biker. He HIGHLY recommended the Odyssey Pc680 to me as a 'bulletproof battery'.

This is great news.....please ask him to explain the relationship of amp/hrs to battery strength ....I'm sure everyone would like to know, I know I would......Also could you ask him why a great battery like the Odyssey is only rated at 16 a/h.......the Motobatt is rated at 25 a/h.......Thanks for your help in this matter.......:thumbup::thumbup:

Bob, it has absolutely nothing to do with tea in china or inhaling anything......are you following this thread or are you inhaling something..:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.......I was making a "PUN" on wether manufacturors or people lie to us or not......and I thought that was a humorous example.......if Bill is one of your Heroes I apologize.

Phil and Mike,

Here is another article which basically states that Ah ratings may not be significant in selecting a battery unless you know the number of hrs. that the rating was determined at. For the Odyssey they show a rating for 10 hrs. and 20 hrs. I cannot find the same info for the Motobatt.

Mike,

The real question is, did Bill Clinton prefer an Odyssey humidor or Motobatt?

bobogera,

You're not allowed to comment b/c you already know the answer.:yikes:

The only reason I have the pc680 in my spyder is b/c I remember that Lamont had purchased one (I think). If he had purchased the motobatt, I would probably have that one instead.
