Although Nan & I are not total health nuts, we both treadmill 6 days a week & do weights 3 days a week. We do it in some part to stay in shape to compete our dogs & in part to try to stay healthy. I think a person has to decide for themselves what & how much to do depending on their own situation. That said both of us feel a big and good difference when we do other activities such as skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, & especially running the dogs. I don't know about working out for the ins. co. though.
I have mostly worked in IT, 41 yrs., so my body had it easy from that point. How do you feel about swimming? Might be the way to go if you get a hankering to.after years of construction work and being very heavy i am paying the price of not being healthy now. i tried a tread mill and had to sell it because the pain walking caused my body was not worth it. that is the only envy i have in life for other people, i sometimes wish i could do it over again and be healthy instead of feeling the way i do now. so stay healthy and take care of yourself
I have been doing a lot of work on the house we bought two and half years ago. Actually full time and this kind of physical movement is not classified by many doctors and weight control people as excersise. Just two of us cutting down trees, pouring concrete mixed in a wheel barrel, moving bricks blocks pavers lumber etc across an acre of land is quite stressful on the body. Lost a lot of weight but it has now come to bite me in the butt..literally. Since around xmas my hip has developed severe pain limiting my range of walking to about 50 feet. I have picked up weight because I did not adjust my diet to match my degree of movement, correcting that now. So I am skeptical about all these diet/excersise theories floating around. Everyone works for someone but none work for everyone. Question is which one will work for you and can you and your body afford the journey to find out...here is the silver lining to my search..even though I can not walk far I can ryde, which I do every chance. Get off only for gas and ryde on. Do ryde alone not many like to ryde this way. So what I'm saying is you have to find whats right for you according to your life style and not according to skinny muscular pretty commercials...I also cook amazing healthy great tasting food that most won't eat because healthy food has to taste nasty to be good...wow I said too much...:dontknow: Jmo

One hour a day (6 days a week) at a ●brisk pace (●elevated but reasonable heart rate for your age and physical condition).......is all it takes. Seems like a lot. Until you realize you're getting back more than you're putting in. It's all about desire and commitment.

Karyl, yoga is one of the best "exercises". I did it for a long time but got away from it. I need to get back to it. It's proven to ease arthritic pain and helps with balance and movement. It was one of the exercises our shifu made us do along with meditation.
Not exactly! That kind of stress will help you drop a few ounces, although it my not be worth the pain.my ex used to twist my stomach and nuts in a knot is that considered yoga
