Rapid City dealer saves my vacation!

First day of our trip to the Black Hills, we're riding through the Badlands and Spyder2 developed the most awful brake noise. Not the normal squeal, but something along the lines of a motorcycle going through a garbage disposal - at least that what it sounded like to me! :yikes:

Luckily my "support vehicle" wasn't far behind, so we loaded it up in the trailer and remembering that they had helped another Spyderlover a few weeks ago, took it to the dealer in Rapid City (Rice Honda Suzuki), unannounced, at about 4:00 in the afternoon. Travis in service had it fixed up and ready to go in about half an hour. Something to do with the adjustment (which we just had adjusted last weekend at our home dealer), and I'm good to go for the rest of our trip! :ohyea:

They are a great bunch of folks at that dealership!

Great to hear about service like that. It's a long way from home for me, but I'd make it a pont to drop in at Rapid City (just to say "hi" and "thanks") if , I shoudl say WHEN I take a trip west. Gotta love the Spyder Tours

Bumping an old thread. We're in Rapid City this week on our trip, and the Spyder needed new tires. Rice Honda Suzuki had tires in stock and were able to throw on a complete set. However during the mounting, one of their techs nicked a front wheel. Apparently if the wheel is not dead center on the tire changer, the clamp can mark up your rim.

Rather than shrug it off or hoping a customer doesn't notice, the tech mentioned it to the service manager, Jeff. When I went to pick up the Spyder they showed me where the nick was (it was visible but IMO a minor chip on one spoke). Jeff offered me the option to replace the wheel at their cost. Unfortunately we were scheduled to continue our trip and could not wait the week for a new wheel to come in. So we worked out an equitable solution which saved me over $100 on parts and labor.

Not happy that they chipped my wheel, but **** happens sometimes. However I was more than pleased that the tech and their manager were honest and up front about it, and worked hard to offer me a fair solution. In the end I walked away a happy customer and I would recommend them for Spyder riders in SD or passing through.

Good news..!!

always good to hear of a good dealer. Helps other travelers as well..thanks..!! :2thumbs:

Must just be me, but they damage your wheel, and to compensate for it they will let you pay for the replacement? While I have to admit I have yet to replace a tire on a Spyder, but I find it strange that they are charging you for their mistake.

WOW! Rice is still open? When we lived there 68-75 my dad bought a Yamaha RT360 from them. Damn I miss the Black Hills!

Yes - Rice Cycle is still there. We have family in the area. I had stopped and discussed a 2014 RT with them. Very courteous and nice dealership. Certainly worth taking a look at and considering! Looks like they have good inventory and the dealership looked well managed.

We go to Rapid City a few times a year and love rydin' in the Black Hills.:D

Wheel Replacement

Blue Star, you didn't read his post correctly. He said he saved over $100 in parts and labor. Instead of waiting for a new wheel, he probably had the dealer add a farkle to the Spyder at no cost to him but costing the dealer $100 in parts and labor.

Can-Am dealer in Rapid City.

During Sturgis rally last summer, I needed a throttle body. Rice came through with great service and BRP coordination. Got me on the road again in short order. In spite of the TB loss, I made a great trip around the area.

Nice to hear a few good comments from out of towners. Just wish I could get their service dept. to call me back when parts come in. Every time I go in, I feel like I am one step ahead of them, mainly because I READ SPYDERLOVERS!! :D Was thinking of shopping around for a new dealer, but may try again. Still trying to make up my mind. :(

I believe I read the post correctly. I do have to give credit that the dealership stepped up, and took blame for the rim damage.

I stopped there for service in 2012 while on a 8000 mile solo trip. Service manager was great and personally checked my buds and tweaked my adjustments. Left very happy and had a great trip with no troubles or worries.
