There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Riders Share - has anyone tried or rented their bike out ?

Has anyone tried riders share as a renter or rentee yet ?

I’d love to know your experience either way. Looks like a great way to get a Ryker or Spyder to rent when on vacation that doesn’t allow you to be able to have your own bike with you.

I agree with Copperman.

You never know what kind of yahoo might be riding your bike and how he/she will treat it. It just cost's too much to take a chance for me.

Renting to a stranger? No way. I'm having anxiety knowing the wife wants to test ride mine to see if she can handle shifting. Currently she has a Ryker Rally, which she loves, but hates that it's not easy to steer, even with a steering damper. She wants power steering. She would probably keep it if I could get this setup instead of the steering damper I currently have.

I don't recommend it ..... You should contact your insurance agent and they will tell you what it would cost ( prohibitive IMHO ) .good luck ...Mike

Not a chance.

I let a close friend sit on my Spyder once, because he asked nicely, but it's easy "no" for letting someone else ride/drive my Spyder.

Here in Oz, and from what I hear on the Forum, the same thing applies over there in the US - even dealers are now very cagey about letting ANYONE ride a Spyder, not even for 'test ride prior to sale purposes' unless it's done as part of a sanctioned and fully insured demo/training session, most likely because of the insurance ramifications if something goes awry!!

I dunno who underwrites those demos/training sessions (possibly BRP self-insures??) but I do know that here in Oz, the premium for dealer's insurance to cover test &/or demo rides on Spyder/Rykers went thru the roof & then some (think 'stratospheric'!) after a fully motorcycle licensed & experienced (2-wheel) rider took a Spyder for a test ride and then failed to negotiate the very first corner, had a prang, killed himself, and very nearly killed the occupants of the car he took out along the way to running off the road & into a tree at speed!! :yikes: So very few dealers allow test/demo rides now days, except under strictly controlled circumstances - their insurance either doesn't cover that sorta thing at all, or they can't afford the premium &/or any excess to cover 'unknown riders'! :lecturef_smilie:

So I don't know what your insurance premiums would be like if you wanted to cover some 'unknown rider' on your bike, but I do know that my insurance premium to cover me driving/riding anyone else's vehicle is not just bloody expensive (despite me never having made an 'at fault' claim on that particular policy in over 50 years AND having saved said insurers motza thru my recovering/saving them the recovery &/or write-off costs by my driving/riding of other people's vehicles!!) and I strongly suspect that your premium (&/or mine! :p ) would be significantly if not exponentially higher if you(/I) wanted to cover the costs of loss or repair to your(/my) Spyder when ridden by any of those previously mentioned unknown riders, let alone cover the risks of your(/my) Spyder being involved in anything that seriously injured (or worse!) any other road user/pedestrian, or even said 'unknown' rider themselves!! :yikes:

Just Sayin'

Peter says it all IMO.

Anyone gone to Vegas and rented a high powered mustang, Lamborgini, or such. Would you rent "yours" out to someone like you ???? :roflblack:

I strongly urge anyone considering it to take Blueknight's advice! If you look at the "EXCLUSIONS" page(s) of your insurance policy, I'll bet you find something referring to "rental" or "ride sharing" for money; most insurance companies consider it an income/business situation and would require specific coverage.

You would be renting your bike at your own peril; I would never consider it.

The only person I've allowed to drive my spyder was my wife, while I was a passenger with her. I showed her how to start it and how to shut it off. We took a short drive on the streets in a vacant subdivision so she could feel how the spyder handled. I only did this in case something happened and I couldn't move it myself, she could move it for me. I would never, never, put her on it on the highway or a freeway.

Never let someone ride your Spyder. Insurance won't pay if they wreck it; did the person have a license to ride a 3-wheeler? My insurance won't pay for another person drive my car and get in a wreck. But it's your Spyder, do what you want... And they are probably going to sue you for their injuries too.
