• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RPM

Easy Dudly, easy. Did you wake up on the rude side of the bed this morning ?

LOL...nope. It's just that after reading so many posts since 2008, sometimes I wonder why some people just can't seem to get the time to read the Owner's Manual, yet can get on here and ask questions that are clearly answered in the Manual, had they read it. The Manual is provided to help us all to better understand and enjoy our Spyders and even gives us safety instructions that could save our life.

I've been here a bit less than two and-a-half years; you do see the same questions that keep popping up, but it's because it's a new question for a new rider...
And a new member!

That is a given and already factored out of the equation..

 But...But... She always tells me that NOTHING happens without her direct involvement!

"Factored out of the equation"...

What RPMs are producing best fuel economy?

My 2011 Rt-L runs fine and all the things wrong don't amount to a hill of beans when get down to it really. What reaLLy gets to me is fuel mileage! For a long time I was shifting to early and slugging the engine getting 20MPG in traffic,

then I found out you got to rev that sucker up. So I brought the shift points up to 4500 +/- a few 100 mileage came up to 30 MPG.

the other day I was not paying any attention to what I was doing and I. Got 44 MPG.

question is what is your best fuel mileage delivered at in the gear verses RPM range?

where does the engine develop its best economy curve
I realize temperature, weather, loading, traffic and terrain are contributing factors. Most of my riding is FL coast line one up 45 to 65 MPH!

I'm thinking that's the hard limiter, Sought of like the 6.6 gal gas tank is the hard fill.
:roflblack:

You could be right on that one. 6.6 gal gas tank, really funny BRP! If my memory serves me well (it usually does not) BRP has publish rev limits of 9,250, 9,500 and 10,000

Yea,
And there's one case were BUD's claims an 11,000 rpm hit,
So that engine is on that owners dime.! :dontknow:

Kind of hard to deny a download from the dealer showing you took the Spyder up the 11k RPM's when trying to make a warranty claim.:opps:

I think the owner's point was that if the rev limiter was working properly the engine should not have been able to turn 11k.

It would not be hard for an operator to over rev the engine on a manual, even with a properly working rev limiter. Down shifting at extremely high rpm will over rev the engine, rev limiter or not. On the semi transmission I don't know if the logic will allow a down shift under those conditions.

I'd imagine that it's possible to spike the rpm's on an SM well above the rev limiter during a hard miss shift....it's only a momentary spike before the limiter has a chance to shut things down but probably enough to show up on the graphs.
