shim location at rear brake caliper

I just changed the rear tire (Kumo). While removing the rear caliper screws a thin washer fell out. It is not shown in the book so I have no idea which of the two bolts had shim washer. Any help would be appreciated, it looks as if should be the lower bolt, near the back since the top front one looks as if there would be no room.

I tried search but nothing is coming up.

Can you see a faint imprint of the shim on the caliper or caliper mount to guide you to the correct place?

I put mine back together without it. I guess when I changed the next tire and the wear is uneven on the brake pads I will know. Later I asked the techs at the dealership if they knew. They have had only 2 so far with shims when I asked and they said they were both under the front bolt. Does that mean that all shims if present are under the front bolt.:dontknow:

Same happened to me when I was working on the machine in Feb or March. I'm sure I could have done a CSI looking for an imprint but opted to just leave it out. As you mentioned, not list in the illustrated part manual and no mention anywhere that I found.

So with a few thousand miles of no shim, not an issue.

My guess would be it either corrects a machining tolerance error, or they wanted to angle the pads slightly to minimize squeal on a light application.

I tagged it for what it is and tossed it in the Spyder parts box...done.

Just came back from test ride and all is well. I have the shim on the back bolt as the front is so tight it would not fit. No squeal and no imbalance problem. I have a cheap tire balancer (Harbor Freight garbage) and the bearings are no good after one use. I will get a new one for the next time but I got it pretty good with what I had.
