• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder RT 2011 Burning my Right Leg - Any fixes?

Remove the splash panels from the bottom of the bike. The problem is, there is nowhere for the heat to go. Removing these panels lets hot air flow naturally out the bottom of the engine compartment. Which should take a load off your leg.

CopperSpyder's suggestion may also be needed. But you can remove these panels for free and find out instantly if this will do the trick.

I would think the last thing you want to do is "block off" anything if your getting tons of heat. Air flow is what you're looking for. Sounds like Ron's solution makes more sense. On some of the HD and VIctory that had some oil cooler heat issues, which in turn could cause rider heat. Guys used computer case fans to help move air., Most operate off 5v so you can actually wire them up to USB port. Put it where it can move some air along.

If you read the instructions in the link CS provided, you'll see there's instruction in large Red text at the bottom of the page telling those installing the Block Off plate to do just what BajaRon mentions, and remove the lower splash panels. (y)

This excess heat was a MAJOR problem on the early Spyders and there's a vast amount of discussion on it/about it in the early threads if you want to go searching and spend some time reading. But as Ron said, some got away with just removing the splash panels. However, most didn't, so the Block Off plate for the Dragon's Mouth that spewed burning heat onto their right leg was the solution for many, at least until the 2013 Heat Recall Air Intakes came along, but that was a fair bit later! ;)

On my 2011 Spyder RT, why does my fan turn off before the temperature drops, with the needle close to the red?

Your gauge may be off a bit, by any chance do you have Magic Mirror Mount magnets on your bike? Are you still on analog gauges? They may be messing with them!

Fans typically cycle well above normal operating temps. They're there just to prevent engine damage when idling in traffic.

I reprogrammed mine to come on at a lower temperature and cut off a few degrees above the thermostat temp.
They still never run when driving, and keep the temp much better controlled when in traffic.
