• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Starting without pressing brake pedal

This happened to me today. I attempted to start the RT and it would not turn over. I messed with the starter button and it finally started.(I m not sure if I hit the brake pedal or not)

Then, a few hours later, the same thing happened. It would not turn over. After I pressed the brake pedal at the same time as hitting the starter button, it fired up.

Is this SOP?? Or is something aloof? If I recall correctly, the salesman just put the key in/hit the mode button and pressed the button and it started.

Its an SE model.

:dontknow:

thats normal - just have a look if you switch off - what gear is inside
by mine one its the same..

Had the same issue & learned

When you shut the SE5 off, you need to be in Nuetral for it to start without applying the brake, otherwise, any other gear (usually 1st) & you will need to apply the brake for it to turn over. At least this was my experience & observation, & it seems logical to boot. Hope this helps

SE5 Model
NOTE:
The SE5 model can be started
in any gear with the brake pedal depressed.
The transmission automatically
shifts to neutral when the engine
has been started.
1. Push down and hold the brake
pedal.

2. Turn the key to ON.

:D

I haven't done any experimentation here yet... but I think that if I shift into neutral and then shut things down, I don't need to hit the brake pedal. If I shut it off in 1st gear, I RHINK that itt shifts itself into neutral, but then I need the whole brake pedal procedure in order to get things to spinning... (Now I'm gonna have to go downstairs and see!):D

:agree::agree:

I've gotten in the habit of shifting my SE into neutral before shutting it off. One problem is even though when you press on the brake it's suppose to shift into neutral for you it still has to build up hydraulic pressure to activate the solenoid valve. If the clutch hangs up it will lug the motor when cranking and if it doesn't start right away it could drain your battery down low enough that it won't start. Ask me how I know that. :gaah:

:agree:and I know how you know that. I have just made it a habit to shirft into neutral, hit the e-brake, hit the stop switch and then turn off the key. That way it starts right back up every time.

Hurts, don't it??? I had the same thing happen when I took an SE5 for demo ride before we bought the 2008 SE5. Stopped at a McD and when we got ready to leave...it would not start! Kinda wanted to crawl into me shell. People walking pass...looking...wondering what they were thinking! Finally called the dealer and was told about the brake pedal!
Yes, reading the owner's manual does reveal some pretty nifty stuff. But! The salesman or someone from the dealer should have gone over the Spyder thoroughly before he ever let you drive off. Enjoy it! Maybe we'll meet again next year, eh!

RTFM ... should be stamped across the front of the "F.M.", and a tee-shirt should be given out to each new owner!:lecturef_smilie::2thumbs:

Bruiser...
That may be true, but you've got that whole "clutch and shift lever thingie" in the way of our fun! :roflblack: :roflblack: :hun:

RTFM goes way back for me..I had a test on the subject and..well..read on:

In 7 th grade, the whole class was handed a sheet of paper and we were told to read and follow the instructions. Numbers 2 thru 11 were pretty off the wall..Cluck like a chicken..run around your desk..hoot like an owl..etc.

The one I and a select few other males (stupidity seems to run rampant in 13 yr old males) failed to observe was the very first one on the list:

1.READ THIS TEST THROUGH THOROUGHLY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

and the clincher at the bottom of the page..

12.WHEN YOU ARE DONE READING, SIGN AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE AND HAND IT BACK TO YOUR TEACHER.It

While I was waddling like a duck, I noticed other kids smirking at me as they handed their papers in. I had no idea why..:dontknow::hun: :roflblack:

My auto mechanics teacher gave our class a test with same first and last instructions. I'm glad I didn't have to cluck . . . :roflblack:. Didn't pass though.
