I have a kind of howling sound as i slow down at around 35 to 40 KPH. It is not constant but kind of cycles as I slow. I also notice it taking off but not above those speeds. It has been there since I got it new from the dealer. It is a 2009 RS and has 3000 KM. I had the alignment and tension checked and the dealer said it was OK. But I don't like the sound, any ideas would be appreciated.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have the same sound on my 09 rs..Took it to my dealer last week. They took it for a ryde and heard the noise I was talking about, but said it was normal. They did check the belt tension and it was fine. I did ryde a '11 rt a few weeks ago, and heard the same sound, but not quite as loud.

I Think mine does it too, like 20 mph or so coming to a stop in second or third gear. i think it is a combination of engine whine, gear whine, and belt whine. dealer said my belt tension and alignment were fine. i think my belt is a little too close to the flange on the rear sprocket, but not touching. how is yours?:dontknow:08gs sm5

As long as the belt is not rubbing on the flange you are okay. There should be about a minimum space of .5 mm between the belt and the flage. It's hard to appreciate a closer seperation. <br>Arthur---Mexico City<br><br>.

Thanks for the replies. The belt is not touching the flange so I guess it is OK. I think it might be coming from the brakes because I rolled it back manually (engine not running!! ) and heard a slight noise start at a certain point. I then did the same thing and at the same time touched the rear disc and the sound deadened.Maybe thats it:dontknow:
