It's a shame that BRP doesn't get invloved. Companies (e.g. Honda) ask for the parts back so they can analyze exactly what went wrong to prevent the problem from reacurring. Does BRP do that? All manufacturers have problems- the difference is how they handle them.

Yowsa! That's great. Now, they won't look at you like you're crazy... like my dealer did when discussing the potential effects of the Gear Position Sensor with me.

BRP seems sort of involved...they told the dealer to change the VCM, but the dealer said no we already did that. The next said change the wire harness, dealer said we want to shake down the connectors first. I think the do look at me like I'm a little crazy since this thing is causing me to resemble Christopher Lloyd...If only I could go back in time and change a $16,000 mistake I made.

The very last phone call was they cleared the codes again and are driving it around...I get it back on Saturday, so I can bring it back on Tuesday?

You bought your spyder for fun and relaxation...not for headaches...it's time, as Scotty said, to start looking for ways of getting another bike or getting your money back. I am very sorry to hear this...

IMHO, get the SM5 if you give it another go-around...less to worry about...more fun to ride!

They're hardly any fun anymore- no more leaks, they start all the time, 100k+ before a top end overhaul, no more pockets full of wrenches- whatever happened to the good old days?.....

Thats why I dont ride one anymore. Although it kept the non-tech rider from owning one. You HAD to know how to change a clutch cable on the side of the road, or deal with a carb falling off, or...well, the list goes on and on.

I was, and still am, in love with any old shovelhead/sportster. I would really like to own 2 Harleys: The first, the last year of panhead, with both electic and kickstart, and the only year that produced a shovelhead/softail, I m guessing 83 or 84?

The genre is so different now than in the mid 70s. Back then you had to customize them yourself. Now you just get out your checkbook and the cloned "custom" comes right off the showroom floor. So much for originality, but kudos to Harley and their marketing scheme.

I still like to take the wind out of a HD riders sail with my favorite ego-busting question, said loudly so everyone can hear:

" Nice bike. I didnt know Hondas were so nice looking":yikes:LOL

This stuff is making me wait.

I have been considering a Spyder ever since my demo ride in September. However since I have been reading up on it by visiting the forums, the problems people are having makes me want to wait. I can understand a new model having "teething problems" in it's first year of production. I want to see if the 2009 models are still having problems and if Bombardier is getting anywhere in fixing them. If not, I'll just get another bike again. D. Reinhard, Ohio

The 2009 SM5 models seem to be pretty solid. My late 2008 SM5 Spyder has been trustworthy also.

That's just wrong! Especially after BRP interceded and told them to do something, which they refused to do. Better look into the lemon laws in your state again. Your dealer needs to get his butt slammed in the door.
