• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Stuck Trunk...please help...

We took on the task of installing the chrome handlebars ourselves, however now the trunk is stuck closed. I have verified that the cable is installed properly and is pulled when the key is turned. The latch appears to be physically stuck. Any thoughts???

Try pushing down on the lid while you turn the key or manually pull the cable sheath. Is there any resistance when you turn the key?

If it worked before you did the bars and now it doesn't my guess is the cable came unhooked when you put it back together. I had to put a ziptie on mine to keep it from popping out of the ignition switch.

Yeah, I had to remove the hood latching mechanism to pull the console out to remove the ignition. I checked the cable by sticking my hand and feeling the bare cable as I turned the key and I could feel it pulling on it freely. I also tried pulling the cable manually, no luck. My husband also tried tried the pushing on the lid trick with no luck. I was afraid this was going to happen when I removed the latching mechanism. I'm not sure what else to try.

Might try a coat hangar under lid and with the aid of a flash light grab latch and pull. Takes two to work together on this. One has to pull up on trunk cover to get wire hanger between trunk lid and gasket. That might get your trunk opened but I not not why it sticks in the first place. That's another problem I hope you can fix.

I actually didn't need a coat hanger, my hand was small enough to get in there at the cable and I could feel the cable connections behind the ignition switch (since that was my first thought... it came undone during the re-install). But I could feel the tension when I turned the key, I also could feel the cable catch and pull freely multiple times. I'm going to try again tomorrow. It was getting too cold to work outside any longer. I need a heated garage.... heck, I need a heated house at this moment... no furnace for the last two weeks :(

Thanks all for the ideas, keep them coming.

You are going to have to try to go in from the left side and snag the trunk latch lever itself. You might be able to push it from the right side, but that takes a straight shot, and I think pulling the lever would be easier. I'm sure that the job will require some contortions, holding your mouth just right, and numerous cuss words. Take off or loosen as many body panels as you can. After you get it open I'd suggest crimping down the cable once it is in the slot on the lever. You might also consider installing an Emergency Trunk Release. That will give you a secondary cable (which also needs to be crimped in the slot).

Where is Gumbi when you need him??

Thanks Scotty, I am going to try that... and the emergency release is a great idea too. :)

Maybe my feeble mind didn't catch something importsant here... :opps:
is it the RT or GS trunklid that's not unlocking??
The chrome handlebar installation says "RT", but talk of an emergency release has me confused... I didn't think that could be hooked up on them; only the GS/RS models. :dontknow:

That's my error. I forgot that Kaitlyn had traded her GS for an RT. The RT trunk lid is gonna be one tough nut to crack!

Right. We have my 2008 GS and a 2011 RT-S. This was the RT that we were having problems with.

We did get the trunk open finally, however, the electronic release isn't working.

Any thoughts on that???

Monsters???

sorry... I've been trying to give him a workout for months now... :opps:
If it's clicking and not opening then something is hanging it up....Maybe the latch needs some adjustment; which doesn't help now! :gaah:
If there's no clicking... something maybe has come adrift in the electricals...
Isn't there a switch on the (slightly) RH side up top that can get knocked out of adjustment and bugger things up??

That is usually a latch adjustment issue. If the latch is adjusted too tight, it will not open electrically. Same thing happens if something is pushing against the trunk lid. Lubing the latch helps, too. If the latch does not work even with the trunk opened and the trunk switch pushed down, you probably hooked the wire up to the switch wrong, or the switch arm is bent.
