• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Sway bar install question

Got Ron's sway bar for my 2013 RT Ltd and since I'm not a "wrench" how long will it take my dealer to install?
Thanks!

With the dealer having the correct tools and a lift it should not take them more than 1.5 hours. At lest that is what I've read on these forums.

It took Harvey at Spyderpops less than 30 minutes. Don't know why it would take a dealer any longer.

give the dealers all the excuses that they want, but it is a pretty straight forward wrenching job.

Each dealer has their own way to deal with these things... My regular dealer would not let me buy my own tire and take it to them to swap out on the :spyder2:. They would, however, pull out the wheel and old tire, me take it somewhere else to swap out/balance and then take it back for them to install back. Eventually I found another dealer that would R&R the tires like requested.

Not bashing them, but my dealer's philosophy on this is "if it is not OEM or not recommended by the manufacturer, we are not installing it!" Most likely to avoid liability issues and even lawsuits. I'm sure there are a handful of dealers like that...

I would say..!!

being generous...1hour. You know they have you over a barrel and can come up with any figure they want but tell them thats the norm and you will go elsewhere. They will come around, if they have done them and you mention an hour they will jump at it...good luck..!!

The 2013 install IS a little more complicated than earlier years.1-1.5hrs. sound reasonable to me from a dealer. It took me 3hrs all told including rest breaks

Friends of mine asked our dealer to install one on their 2012 RT and they told them 8 hours since they had never done one before. So don't be surprised at anything you are told. The install on the 2013 is easy once you get the Spyder far enough off the ground to remove the old one.

Exactly! The time monster for the 2013 install is getting the Spyder up high enough. A dealer should have no problem with this, investing maybe all of 5 minutes or less in lifting the Spyder. After this step the rest of the install is easier than the pre-2013's.

My dealer, Velocity Power Sports, Ladson, SC, installed my sway bar on my 2013 RTS SE5. The Spyder Tech said it was his first one, and it took him about 1 1/2 hours, but charged me 1 hour labor. I guess he figured he should not charge me for any learning curve.

:yikes::hun: Wow! It only took me five hours to nail mine into place; and I'm eliigible for the Special Olympics of wrench twisting...

Some dealerships simply do not want to do this install. Rather than tell you 'NO!', they simply inflate the labor charge to an amount that if you do have them do the work, they come out really good. But usually you'll go somewhere else which is what they wanted to happen in the 1st place.

I just had a dealer tell my customer that they had to remove the entire front end of the Spyder to install the sway bar, which is not true and not recommended for the 2012 RT.

It's their dealership and they can do what they want. But it doesn't make for a high return customer ratio.

Got 'Er done!

Exteme power sports in Gaylord MI, 3 hours and $150. First one installed rides on rails!

Thanks for all you comments!

I have never worked on a spyder before I changed out my sway bar and the links at same time. With Ron's great instructions I changed them out in 1 hr and 15 min. Start to finish.
