There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Tank bag/Map holder

Starting to plan a trip on my 2014 RTS SE6 - full length of the Natchez Trace Parkway. NPS has a wonderful map, which I would like to display on the top of my tank. Anyone found a good tank bag with map pocket or just a map holder?

Tried a search and 'tank bag' got me lengthy discussions on fuel economy, and 'map holder' equally unrelated discussions on cup holders. So much for non-Google powered searches.

Suggestions?

Thanks, John

My Aerostitch Darien pants have Velcro on the pants leg for attaching a map pouch. I just Googled Spyder Tank Bag and got a lot of replies. Kuryakyn and Nelson Rigg both make them.

CanAm/BRP have a tank bag for the RS/ST's, & it's not too bad.

With a little ingenuity it's fairly easy to mount their bag on the top of the RT glovebox/piewarmer (velcro pad on the glovebox lid with the hook part stuck on the bottom of the bag, & the two straps up front trhreaded thru the GPS brackets) & it works pretty well as a Map Holder with a handy sized bag underneath.

My little dog actually spends a lot of time sitting in it, but I hafta leave the map holder bit folded forwards for that....

Works OK for me & he loves it too - but when he's not in it, it still works as a Map Holder!

Quick search on Nelson Rigg site says that bag will not fit RT. Can Am bag is for RS only. Hopnel bag too small to display a map.
Keep the ideas coming, folks.

Thanks, John

Yep, I said the CanAm bag wasn't specifically designed for the RT, but that it only took a little bit of velcro and about 1 minute looking at it to work out how to get it to fit securely on top of my RT's 'Glove-box'! And it fits well, sits nicely in place, holds all 2.5 kg of the dog without movement when I want it to but handles maps & other stuff the rest of the time, & it hasn't scratched the paint work yet (with about 18,000 miles in!)

I use a Cortech mini. It doesn't quite contour with the bike but has served its purpose for 5 years. I do place a bit of pad between bike and bottom of bag. I have also added a elastic strap with snaps to hold snug on bike. The snares are the type that screw in and the went below the lip and under the seat. The front strap goes around the steering shaft and stays there all the time. I also fabricated a larger map pocket and attach it with velcro squares. The bag is an older model so I do not know the availability.

If we are voting...I have the Nelson Riggs and it is great. Always carry a paper map cause as nice as a gps, phone googlemaps may be they can never give you the big picture....:spyder:

Chupaca, is yours mounted on an RT? If not, could you speculate on mounting one on an RT?

Thanks, John

I use that technique regularly, but it will not work on the National Park Service map of the Trace.

Thanks, John

The Nelson Riggs tank bags are a universal mounting system. Velcro strap that goes around the steering shaft under the ignition and has clips that attach to the cover panel just under the front edge of the seat. My other travel bags are Kuryakyn but I never tried their tank bag...

Just to put some closure on this topic, after all your valuable feedback and a lot of thought,
I think I will reuse an old TourMaster tank bag I've had for 20 years. It's magnetic mount,
but with a foam waffle underneath and a couple of Velcro straps, I think it will be secure
enough.

Thanks again for your help.

John
