I have thrown my two cents out a few times on this Blog and I appreciate the comments both positive and negative. I would like to share an incident that happened to me last year.
Last year about this time I had a 2013 RTL that I took to my dealer for some maintenance. I left my house, my wife stayed home. When I got back we planned we planned on going out for the day on the RTL. The work was completed on my RTL, texted my wife everything was good and I was on my way back. On the way back there is a two lane fairly busy 2 lane highway that I had to travel on. I was stopped at a light behind an 18 wheeler. Unknown to me there was a homeowner a couple hundred yards ahead was cutting down tree branches, against the advice of neighbors. The traffic light turns green, the homeowner continues to cut branches, he hit an electrical wire crossing the road with a branch the wire dropped on the 18 wheeler, by luck, the 18 wheeler clipped both sides of the wire. The wire traveled across the rig and dropped on me and my 2013 RTL. I hit the brakes, the kill switch and turned the key to the off position. Now I was told that I got off the Spyder called 911, took pictures of my RTL, called my wife and said a few choice words to the home owner before they took me to the hospital. After they checked me out and told me to stay in bed, I got up anyway put my jacket and helmet on the bed. There was not a mark on my jacket, helmet or me. Other than being shook, I was ok, but no so much for my beautiful 2013 RTL….both mirrors were ripped off, every panel was scored and a hole in the windshield. Somehow the wire landed on the inside of the windshield, I have no idea, The Good Lord was with me that day
Moral of the story…SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY, read and take the safety course in the back of your manual, be safe and watch out for falling wires. I thank God every day that I have another day to share with my wife.
