Tom Tom Motorcycle 5 edition Gps reviews please

Hi anyone who has Tom Tom Motorcycle 5th edition please give a review before I spend $400.00 on it. I can not check it out in store. can only buy on line.
Yes or No plus any comments.
Good Visibility in light ?
Good visibility direct sun on it ?
Windy Roads is great feature?

Points of interest list good or great? Does it give just food and gas or good things to see or do.
A complete review would be great also if your up to it.

Thanks in advance
Kenn

I have a Tom Tom rider and I like the winding roads feature. It is not as strait forward to operate as the Garmin Zumo 660 on the RT. It does not have a built in speaker. It does not come with a car cradle and that makes it cheaper.

Tom Tom nickel and dimes you to death for updates after your free update period is over. Look for Garmin models with LM or LMT in the model designation. This is lifetime maps or lifetime maps and traffic updates for the life of the unit.

TOM TOM

i have the TOMTOM on my F3-S, and it's gr8....
however, if you also have the
SCALA G9, and you have your phone & the TOMTOM blue-toothed to the SCALA... they have a tendency to fight with each other thru the G9.... i have to turn off one of either unit, and that limits my options... otherwise, when using the TOMTOM alone with the G9, it works gr8....
good luck on your decision....

PS: my GARMIN in my TUNDRA is 2nd to none....

Just to be straight up here..... Stand alone GPS units will soon be a thing of the past.

Most smart phones today give you all a GPS can do and more!

The fact a Garmin or TomTom motorcycle GPS' is so outrageously priced.... it's captured market which is about ALL they have left!

I went through all the trouble of putting my own DIY GPS on my Spyder and NOW never use it!

My iPhone 6 does everything I need and I can tell Siri to navigate to wherever I want over my BT headset. I then get turn by turn directions which is a LOT SAFER than having to look down at a screen! I know a GPS will do that too but you cannot verbally ask a GPS to give you directions to somewhere! Well not as well as a smart phone.....

My phone is in the trunk waterproof and integrated and I never need to look at the screen once I learned to use Siri properly.

Again... stand alone $400 GPS systems are a thing of the PAST!

My opinion....

GPS Unit

Hi,

Please check the following motorcycle water/shock GPS we are providing.

They are specifically designed for motorcycle with a very bright screen and glove friendly touch screen as well as a sun shade cradle.

The GPS software is iGo Primo
with NavTeq maps (here).

We also have special adaptor for RT installed, I can provide pictures if needed.

Thanks
Sharon

I almost bought that model; however, I instead bought the app for my iphone and use it instead. I already listen to music via bluetooth from my phone into my Sena headset. I put my phone into a RAM X-grip mount and plug it into my USB power outlet so the GPS won't drain it. Now my phone handles music, directions and phone calls all at the same time--perfectly.

You want to consider the app which is completely offline. There is no need for a data signal for the GPS to work. Even buying a RAM mount and X-grip and app, it's cheaper than the separate GPS unit. Oh, the phone works great in day or night.

garmin 660

Garmin is way to go 660 can be bought for $350 that includes wiring ,cover carrying case, unlimited updates.

I really like this idea. Which specific APP did you get?

A man I worked with had a tom tom gps and I had a Garmin 660. His would get him lost in a parking lot before we left on a trip. The thing was a piece of c--p. Pay the extra $$ and be happy ( I never got lost ) and found gas stations resturants and motels.

I have questions about that. Got the 660 on my STL works fine then this last update V4.20 requies i dowload other features on my pc that I DONT WANT! (Base camp) Cant just get map? :helpsmilie:

I have TOMTOM 350 XL $100.00 and dry box for the rain $30.00, a RAM mount and holder $50.00, for to sunny days a sun shade $25.00. I also have free map updates, four times a year for life. For $205.00. I have been using it since 2006.

Further info i also have a tom tom XL w/life maps snagged off HSN it stays in cage or on loan to family most times. Garmin mounted to bike works for me. I have unusual amount of poor direction training & general navigation works best. (Cell tower tech., generators & shelters,FYI Thousands of sights directions are "black mail box turn L @ big tree!" Drove service truck NY-Mexico ,E of Rockies 1999-2007) dont wanna become dependent on a GPS. They are handy but good atlas gives you "full screen" view to see alternatives. Quite fun to get lost & find hidden gems tooImageUploadedByTapatalk1434688994.361170.jpg. G'Luck!

Do cellphones use GPS technology or are they dependent upon cell service to work? Also, what impact does navigation have on your data plan?

I just got the TomTom USA version. At the time there was a 30-day demo version also available on the app store. I actually grabbed that. It was like a dollar and you got FULL access for 30-days (even traffic). I decided it was worth it and went to upgrade to the full version when it prompted me and got some percentage off the full price. It was actually cheaper to get the demo and unlock the full paid version after 30 days rather than buying the full version outright.

I've had it for about and year and totally happy. The US maps take almost 2GB worth of space since they are offline. I'd hazard a guess there is an android version too. I even use it in my car with a little suction phone mount I got for $10 off Amazon.
