Trailer cover torn

The cover for my wife's Can Am trailer has a small tear in it. We don't have any idea how it happened but it is there. It is torn in 2 directions so it forms a small "v" about 1" on each leg.

Is this a repair we should do ourselves, would it be best to take it to a "Tent and Awning" shop?

You can buy tarp patching "tape" at the home improvement store, or purchase tent patching "tape" from an outfitter or sporting goods store. Both are meant to do waterproof repairs, and are meant to stick to canvas-like materials. Please understand that periodic maintenance or replacement may be required. These patches do begin to lift in time, especially if the cover is folded or stuffed. If you round the corners of your patch before sticking it down, it will remain intact longer. Gorilla Tape can be used to affect a temporary repair, but ma leave residue behind that interferes with a permanent repair. A tent/awning dealer could probably fix it, too...and more permanently, but they would likely sew the patch, which would require the stitches to be sealed. They should be able to seal or tape the seams. I don't know whether they would do it economically, you'd have to ask. I'd stop by the tent & awning place and show them what you have, and also look at the patching materials available, before you make your decision.
