Turn signal indicators

I have seen several posts about how dim the turn signal indicators seem to be on the newer models. I just purchased a 2016 F3 Limited and had an idea to drill a 5/16 hole on the inboard side of each mirror either in the top or bottom where the "void" or unused area is. My question is,is there anything behind it that I would screw up by drilling a hole there and is there a sufficient amount of room to install a single LED indicator light that would be about 1.5 inches long. Would like to hear from someone that has cracked one of the mirror housings open. Thanks in advance.

Just installed 2 LED bolt lights on front of each mirror. Drilled holes on inside top corners of both mirrors. On the f3 pull the front cap of mirrors there is nothing behind to obstruct wires. Then pull connection apart and feed wires into plus and re hookup. Work great.

I drilled the holes on either side of the dash on my RS and tapped into the turns signals. Works fine. You can see the left one on the top part of the dash vent..

I have solved my problem of trying to see the indicator lights on my 2015 RT SE 6 model
due to the glare on the cluster
I was going to put LED's on the mirrors but due to the amount of worked involved and I wanted to be able to remove the mirrors as normal

I have installed led's on all 4 of the RT limited's we've owned, the last one took about an hour start to finish as I have passed the learning curve.
