• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

1330cc Turns over but won't start

I have a 2015 RT. Last year it seemed like one cyl was cutting in and out. This spring, I've been trying to start it and it turns over but won't start. I've changed the gas just in case it wen't bad. Any ideas what to do? Thanks!

Did you put stabilizer in the gas before tucking it in for the winter? If not, the injectors may be clogged. Did you check the battery terminals to see if they are clean and tight?

Yes

I did use stabilizer. Battery is excellent shape.

It's going to take a more experienced Spyder guy than me to address your problem. Sorry.

Try the method BRP suggests for a "drowned" engine. (We used to call it "flooded", in the carburetor days.) Hold the throttle wide open before and while cranking. See if it fires, and then let up on the throttle.

Basic stuff first, click stop (Red Kill switch) switch on and of a few times back and forth. Now with your kill switch in the run position. try starting the spyder and don't forget to step on the Brake hard and keep your foot on it when you hit the start button.

Let's just do a little technical correction on that procedure description. Hold the throttle wide open and then push the start button. That signals the ECU to cutoff all fuel. Called drowned engine mode. It won't fire - it can't - no fuel. But it will clear the cylinders and somewhat dry the plugs. Continue holding the throttle wide open. Crank for about 10 seconds. Then start from scratch and attempt a normal start. The ECU will be back into normal mode. If it coughs / sputters and tries to start, repeat if required. The V-twins seemed more susceptible to drowned engine issues than the 1330 for some reason. This feature is standard in most ECUs.

Interesting.... I did as you said and it started very rough for 3 seconds. Then it stopped and I've tried several more times and I smell gas but no starting.

Hey Gary. Well, if the problem was only or mainly a drowned engine, then 2 or 3 tries will typically get you started. And IIRC, the kill switch not in RUN prevents it from cranking at all. Same as the 998. So, that seems all OK, too. Guess you’ll need to do a deeper dive. It’s either fuel, air, or spark, right?

When you replaced the gas, was the tank fully emptied? Any chance of water in the tank? Fuel pump fuse? Coil / injector fuse? Fuel filter, plugs. Any codes? Wish I could do better.
