• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What Camper Trailer options are there for Spyder's - RT &/or F3?

I am about to purchase my very first 2024 Spyder RT (I am still considering the F3 Ltd, but I'm leaning toward an RT). I am curious if anyone has purchased a camper and towed it along with them on trips. I plan to do long multi-day rides, and it would be fun to pull into campsites instead of hotels if that was an option. I asked the sales guy at the dealer, and he said BRP has a pull weight limit of 400 lbs, but he knows guys who tow 1,500-2,000 pounds or more. I have done some research and see so many options that advertise specifically for motorcycles and they are heavy. One I saw was the Little Guy My Pod, but there are many. Thank you in advance for any advice you all may have.

Oh, No, some more sales guy malarkey!!! Yes 400 lbs is limit, for trailer and cargo. 25 lbs tongue weight. Why don't you ask him for proof?? With out brakes on trailer, that much weight will lead to trouble for numerous problems. There are some here who have made a nifty little camper in the specs that are mentioned (400 / 25) that will probably let you know
 
The dry weight of a 2024 CAN-AM Spyder RT is 1,024 lbs.
There is no way it can safely tow 1,500 lbs.

I found several camper trailers designed for motorcycles that were under 400lbs.
 
Just a thought...... When pulling a trailer, the tow vehicle needs to be in control...... stopping, corners, winds, etc. If you have a relatively heavy trailer, it could take control of your handling in adverse condition. Not good! Ability to pull is one thing. Ability to tow safely is another. Good luck..... Jim
 
You can correctly assume from my avatar I carried my house on my back for part of my life. I also have done considerable self-contained long distance bicycle touring. Were I to resume such behavior with my Spyder, I would purchase a 622 or Freedom trailer, a quality tent and the other convenience accoutrements that make life acceptable sleeping on the ground. You can make it as comfortable as you want to reduce the roughing it factor.
 
Check out the USA motorcycle trailer store. I think they are located in Greenville SC which might be within driving distance from you in Ga. I think their camping trailers would be within the 400 lb limit.

I pull a Time Out Deluxe camper. Specs say it is 385 lbs. It’s closer to 485 when all the gear, A/C unit, etc is added. I have found it to be almost too big for one person, room wise. If I were to do it again, I would seriously consider a Kompact Kamp Mini Mate.

I also have two other, smaller and lighter trailers. The Spyder pulls them all fine. Due to weight, these two trailer get along fine without brakes.

I can say without a doubt that I would not want to pull the camper without brakes. I have done it and the difference is an attention getter.

As far as the Spyder pulling 1,500-2,000 lbs, I have no doubt that it would move it. But I call B.S. on it’s ability to do it on even a modest trip.

If this is your first motorcycle/3-wheeler I'd suggest you get some serious riding time under your belt before you even start pulling a trailer. JMHO!

My wife and I both have over 100,000 miles of actual experience pulling camper trailers with our Spyders. Over the last 10 years, we have had several pop-up tent trailers along with gear trailers.

I pulled our Aspen Classic at 465 lbs. on our Coast-to-Coast trip that covered 11,000 miles, 26 states, and 66 days. Just this summer I rode solo to the Artic Circle with our Leesure Lite at 465 lbs. with no problems.

She usually pulls a gear trailer while I pull the camper. We usually stay out a week at a time on our camping trips thru out the summer.

I would keep the weight under 500 lbs.

Has anyone towed a HELIO HE3S and if so how was it?
I looked at the towing details in my 2024 Spyder Operator's Guide and in the Towing Specifications table on Page 91 it says:

Maximum tongue weight: 18 kg (40 lbs)
Maximum towed weight (trailer and cargo): 182kb (400 lbs)

According to the information I found online, a 2023 HELIO HE3 Series trailer exceeds both of those weights:

Hitch Weight: 74 lbs
Dry Weight: 499 lbs

Hitch Weight and Tongue weight are the same, and dry weight is the empty trailer.
 
While I have no doubt one could pull a bit more than the rated 400# safely, there's no way I'd even consider towing over 500#.

Tow ratings have a safety factor built in, but 20% is about all I'd consider trying.
Even then, in the event of an accident, being overloaded could cause you some expensive problems with liability and insurance claims.

I'd also consider trailer brakes a must when pulling near or over the rated limit.
