What gas does the Spyder take???

I have a 2012 rt with 20,000 miles on it now. I live in rural Minnesota and there just aren't a lot of vehicles on the road that require premium gas here. Most all the gas stations sell it but my guess is they don't sell much and it gets old. All our gas here is required by law to contain ethanol. I used premium the first year almost 100% of the time, but on occasion I had to use some regular now and then when premium wasn't available. First I thought it was just in my head that it seemed to run better and get better mileage on regular. I have done a few full summer surveys now between regular and premium and my Spyder defiantly runs better with regular gas.

I had exactly the opposite results with my 2010; and it's the same engine as your 2012! :dontknow:
I noticed a full 10% drop in fuel economy, and the low-end pull in first and second gear just wasn't as strong... :shocked:

With my 2014; it seemed to run just about the same as ever...

Here's my question: Just how much high octane fuel do you get if the pump uses one hose for all three grades and the previous user pumped regular 87 octane fuel? Since we only need a few gallons for a fill up are we being cheated or should we just look for three hose pumps?

This whole thing is beginning to sound like an oil/tire thread. If I had any hair to pull out I'd do it. Simply read the manual or placard under the seat. Follow those directives and Henny Penny will stop crying "the sky is falling". That's not so hard is it?

Ask a question like Oil, Gas, Tires or the Weather and you will get 20,000 different answers here. A different opinion from each member. Some of these opinions are very strong and very wrong. Reading the manual instead of pinging off of everyones opinions goes a long way.

Like the old wise saying, "little common sense goes a long long way". Taking verbatim everyones opinion (and they all differ) on here will be like trying to herd Cats.

Excellent question "my dear Watson". You have just been awarded the thinking cap of this entire thread! The residual gas in the hose and depending on the mechanical valves residual amount could be just as you say.

Anyway let's hope the last user used +91 octane. These threads kind of remind me of "If my mind wanders, should I follow it". :joke:

Sure, Pabst and Old Style would have been ok, but why drink low quality beer just to save .60 cents?

I was kidding about the oil. I'd get excommunicated from Spyderlovers if I started another oil thread. There is probably more written about oil in these cyber pages than any other single subject except the Spyder itself.

If steriltech had read his manual, I wouldn't have learned cool stuff from Ron and Peter, et al. BTW, I can say with authority that herding Cats can be great fun.

Just wanted to calm the nerves of those who might be worried there was going to be yet one more dreaded Oil Thread! :yikes: And I see from reading posts since my last visit, There was a fair amount of angst building over this. You have no idea how much effort it took to pry my OIL OPINION-ed fingers away from my keyboard! I've got therapy scheduled 1st thing next week over this! :gaah:
