• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Windshield Removal?

How do I remove my windshield? I'm getting ready to put a vent in it. Already have the highth of the vent marketed with masking tape. Thanks

How are you cutting the hole? I want to put a vent in ours as well but was worried about cutting the shield.

In order to remove the windshield, you need to raise it to just about the maximum level. Once this is done you will see four screws on the back side of the windshield that hold the front trim plates on. Loosen the screws, carefully and pull the trim pieces off without disturbing the windshield.

Once that is done it is only a matter of carefully lifting it off the set points, done!

The hardest part is when you reinstall it, make sure that alignment is correct and tighten but do NOT overtighten the four screws.

Sorry about the duplication, I thought I had lost it.
i just finished this myself. How high from the bottom of the windshield are you placing it. One I had read about put his at 13", I did mine at 10.5". Are you installing the one for the Goldwing 1500?
Raise the windshield to the full height, and remove the two screws from the inside. The bottom of this chrome trim piece has a hook tab. Put a sheet of paper under the bottom to protect from scratches. Move the top back and forth to free it up, and move the bottom back and forth at the same time. I forget which way it needs to go for removal. It was suggested to put a towel below to keep screws from falling into the abyss. Once the trim ices are removed, four screws will be exposed from the front. It was suggested to have an assistant help hold the screen, but I was able to stabilize it by holding the center section between the two lower holes. Watch that you don't drop the washers or rubber inserts.

AND SOMETHING TO CONSIDER

Because there is lots of play in the area of those attachment bolts/screws I made very thin washers from plastic container tops ( like cool whip or tub maragine ) with a hole cutter ...... It made the windshield mounting much firmer. Because the plastic is very slippery it acts as it's own lubricant. It's not under much if any stress so it should last a long time ........ I left the windshield on to cut mine out. I put masking tape on both sides, drilled 4 corner holes and used a jigsaw with a fine toothed blade for the cut. To finish it off I used a rasp in a die grinder.
