There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Windshields

When I was at the dealer, I noticed they offered two different shields for the bike. Has anyone tried either of the optional shields?

I also noticed some of the larger windshields offered by a vendor on this forum however I'm concerned that it might take away from the looks. What have you guys found?

Thanks

welcome

Both the touring and sport windshield are offered by BRP. At a recent demo tour, the some of the SpyderTeam said they would opt for either, but one of the team recalled that on a ride of 4.5 hours from one of their stops to the next, that he preferred the sport (very short v-notched) windshield, because although the wind tends to buffet against you, it is more direct and doesn't have forces of swirling that are created with the taller windshield causing your head to wobble.

In my opinion, depending on your driving style and range, a taller windshield (taller than offered by BRP) that would eliminate the wind in your chest/face may be good for touring, but the standard or sport would be ideal for short rides.

If you click on the Corbin website (see home page) and read about why they designed their windshield to be closer to the rider and taller it explains alot of the problems with BRP's design.

I have BRPs touring windshield and for regular riding it is just fine but for longer trips I was just beat after a ride. That much wind on my chest the whole time and at hwy speeds sometimes it hit me just under the helmet and I felt like my helmet was trying to be pulled off. I ordered from Marcel his F1 windshield. The first time I saw it I did not like the looks, then I saw it on a number of spyders and it started to grow on me. I ordered in light smoke. I leave it on all the time and I even like the look on my spyder. Here is a photo from the front.

I am no longer tired after long hauls and it eliminates most of my wind problems. On windier days and at higher speeds I still get some buffeting but it is so much better than the touring or sport windshield for the long rides that I am not complaining. I did have to do some "fine tuning" of the windshield to fit my riding style and Marcel tells you how to do that on his website. Ultimately it was a mod worth purchasing for me.

Thanks for the reply - the Marcel shield you have looks great, is there any supports other than where it's bolted on?

Is this from the vendor here on tis forum?

Thanks

No other supports aside from the four bolts with larger washers. It holds up well in sustained 90+ mph riding. :D

His site is listed on the SpyderLovers home page. It's the Spyder Windshields one.

I would ride first without a windshield and then decide if you like the wind. I ordered a shield, it did not work out, and I am now glad. I like the wind. I have ridden in wind, rain, ice, snow, and really nice weather and the wind was fine. My longest ride has only been about 450 miles so a windshield might be good for something longer, but I am sticking with the stock. I did order a touring shield but at my height, it felt like the wind was going to rip my helmet off my head. So I just use the short stock shield and have added the touring shield to my box of thinks to get rid of!

:agree: stock or BRP touring shield works just fine for me for close to 13,000 miles now. :doorag:

After 40 years on a bike there is no thinking about it - I like windshields and hate bugs, rocks, etc. I'm surprised that the stock windshield does work to a point.

Hey Mike,

That's why I made my own windshield. No too much different from making my own changes to heli canopies or small windshields for a Jet Ranger scale heli.
Have you tried putting a Trex in the trunk and then go to a Fun Fly? I plan too for the Mansfield Heli Phenom.

Hey heli partner - no have not tried to shove a heli in there yet but I'm sure it's in the future. Took the Spyder for a little 110 mile ride today really starting to like the thing.

Hey have you or any ofthe users tried these windshields - the guys says they are 3" shorter than the tall windshields:

The BRP tour shield streams the air it's not buffering, but solid and constant. Actually not bad, but losts of wind noise.

My shield provides coverage, and is quite a bit quieter. I hear the little sounds that make me wonder "where's that coming from"? I didn't hear the "honing" sound until I made my shield. I just hope it's not a bearing going bad. After reading the threads, and a phone conversation, I think I can set the belt right. My first attempt solved the "honing" sound, but I picked up a vibration at 50mph. The belt is probably too loose now.

So the moral is....if you can't hear it, you don't attempt to fix it. If you can't fix it, it'll cost you time for trying. :banghead:
