Bad news if you want a set of 165/60R-15 Vredestein Quatracs from tire rack!

I just tried to order a set for the front and they had only 1 in stock, so I had to have a set back-ordered and they are not supposed to come in until late October!

The only other tire they have in stock in that size is the Continental ContiProContact Grand Touring All-Season.

I am about to have my brand loyalty tested, I really need to get tires before I head out to Georgia and beyond.

Do they have the 175/55R/15 in stock? That's what I'm running on my 2022 F3S. They fit & work great.

The diameter of the 165 is 22.8" and tread width is 6.5". The diameter of the 175 is 22.5" and tread width is 7.0". This is according to Tire Rack specs.

Those measurements are, AT BEST, simply 'nominal' measurements for the theoretical but actually non-existent 'standard tire' of that size!! That basically means they are a 'Best Guess', or possibly even a SWAG!! :sneaky:

The majority of tires will be somewhat different to the nominal size printed on their sidewall when mounted & fitted, plus or minus who knows what; AND THEN there's all the size variations that can occur due to ambient temps, tire pressure, load, and more to take into account; plus the risk of the tire sidewall (or tread) hitting any object/bracing subject to the position of the potential obstruction with respect to where/how the tire flex occurs during cornering etc.

Caveat Emptor!!

ESPECIALLY if you're using the nominal tire dimensions from places like Tire Rack or any other place on the Internet, unless maybe it's that very tire's actual manufacturer's physical tire dimensions and specs shown for the given ambient temp, air temp in the tire, load, speed of rotation, etc, etc, etc, et al!!

Just Sayin' - again! ;)

I was able to see the condition of your fronts from a picture that you posted of your windshield on "what did you do to your Spyder today". Am interested in knowing how many miles are on these tires in the picture.

I put them on back in late March, early April of '23, had an alignment done at that time, and I now have about 32K on them. But since then, I was rear ended and had the swing arm replaced, plus they take a beating on some of the small narrow mountain roads around here.

I was going to just swap tires on the rim to even out the wear and give me more time before I bought new ones, but I waited too long and the right tire is down to its secondary layer.

I was able to do a live chat on tire rack this morning and they had the 175/55/15 available, so I changed my order and I'll give them a try.🤞

I have to give Brooks a call so they can get me in for an alignment after I get them on.

I have a different machine but I run the 175/55R15 and love the way it handles. I now have 39,000 on mine. I have never had mine aligned, but I will when I get new tires after the riding season. I did have mine recently remounted, balanced, and rotated, as mine were wearing on the insides on both. I will get the new tires ordered and put in my inventory, as I don't want to run any other. The Can-Am dealer here can do a laser alignment for $275. Is that competitive?

I'd guess that puts it at the high end of reasonable. When I had mine done a couple of years ago, I think it was just over $200. I imagine prices have gone up some since then.

I'd say $275 is a total rip off.
East TN ATV charges $130.00

Good to hear something for comparison, on my last alignment they had it in there for about 4 hours, in order to straighten out something that was left behind by another dealer that did the re-frame that was affecting the alignment, and they didn't charge me anything extra, so I was very happy with the price they charged, considering how much a dealer normally charges for labor.

I was able to get the 175/55/15's mounted on the front today. and took it up to sheetz to get the pressures adjusted.

They ride nice and no rubbing to worry about, I'm good to go for my ride up to Brook's Powersports on Thursday and they are doing the alignment for me.

I have had issues in the past even with the 165's rubbing that I had to correct, I don't think I want to push 175's even though the aspect ratio is lower.
I've had issues with 165/60R15 Vredesteins rubbing on my 2022 RT S2S fenders. Shimming/lower profile screws minimized, but not stopped, the rubbing issues. I'm 90% sure it wasn't rotor noise. Weird, as other than color, all 2020-2023 RT/RTL fenders are the same. No issues with 165/55R15 Kanines on PPA wheels or 165/55R15 Achilles car tires on my OEM wheels. When I sold my 2019 F3S, I had the Vredestein's installed on it. No issues on the F3s. Now, I am pondering purchasing some 175/55R15 Vredesteins to try. Either they'll work, or I'll have $275 rubbing issues (after mounting/balancing). Bummer that neither Federal or Achilles no longer imports 165/55R15 tires into the USA. We shall see...

I think with the 165/60's, they seem to be more susceptible to the front end diving down in a corner. I noticed I didn't have as much issue once I installed the Wilbers and my front end was more stable, but it was still there if I was really going at it hard in the corners. But with the stock shocks, if I even made a right or left hand turn from a stop while giving it some gas, it would cause the weight to go to the outside wheel and it would rub. Eventually, I was able to eliminate it (by accident) when I had the deer hit me and I replaced the left fender. When I remounted it, I didn't have the rub on the left side. So I just loosened the fasteners on the right fenders and supports and shifted it away from the tire as far as I could, then retightened them without shimming, and that pretty much eliminated it.
