• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

"Before operating read safety card" message will not go away, parking brake staying on - anyone had this happen? How did you fix it?

I have a 2019 F3 Limited. This past week I tried to start my bike, and I am not able to clear the "Before operating read safety card" message. Hitting the mode button does nothing. Also I was not able to release the parking brake. That light is also on. I did do the manual disconnect on the parking brake so I could move my bike into a spot for better access to the battery. Found the battery to be good, but replaced it anyway as it is 4 years old and when it is cold it is slow to crank over. I had the battery out and new one in with about an hour of things being disconnected. Still the message will not go away, and the parking brake light is still on. I also have the light around the joystick flash 7 times after I turn the key off. From what I have found, this could be an issue with the switch and the cluster not communicating. Has anyone had this happen? If so how did you clear the issue? I am trying to prevent renting a trailer to take the bike down to the service shop if possible.

I'll start with the usual battery question. Did you charge it up fully before putting it in the Spyder? Also, please double-check your brake fluid is up to the correct level.

In that model year time frame, there were service bulletins for both the parking brake motor and the left hand multi-function switch. If your Mode button does nothing, then I think you are correct - that the switch has gone belly up. IIRC, on the F3, the switch can be replaced without needing to de-pin the connector to route it down into the harness. So, you could possibly tackle that job yourself. Do a forum search. There are numerous posts about that switch. Going to the shop might be prudent, however, just to get the machine on BUDS and verify the failure before you spend the money.

How about your Recalls and software update for your 2019 F3. Up to date?

Are you suggesting that if the brake fluid is low, parking brake lockup can occur? How so?

Is the parking brake mechanical or hydraulic?

For the sake of accuracy, the parking brake on Spyders is mechanical. It doesn’t need brake fluid. But yes, because the parking brake moves the piston in the rear caliper, you can “feel” that if you have your foot on the brake pedal. But, it doesn’t use brake fluid to operate.

There is some logic in the electronics between the low fluid level and the parking brake indicator.
The INDICATOR - yes. OPERATION - no. What there is, is that - on some Spyders - a Low Brake Fluid Level will light up the same warning light that the parking brake uses when it's engaged. But, there is no fluid level logic that prevents operation in either direction, which was the OP's issue - it would not physically operate.

I purchased the F3 used. Is there any way to tell if the service bulletins were addressed?

The 2019 has 2 SAFETY RECALLS. Front sprocket and transmission output shaft - depending on mileage. You can look at the front sprocket and see the color. The replacement is light silver-ish gray. The black or white one is incorrect. Transmission shaft and software update (software update is not a Recall) you’d have to check with the dealer. Which is the plus side of touching base with one. They can access your vehicle records directly from the mother ship. The NHTSA site is notoriously slow getting updated with recall compliance by VIN. I wouldn’t waste time there.

Other Service Bulletins or a Warranty Campaign are a different type of document to inform a dealer of a problem. They are addressed as they occur if an owner comes in with the particular problem. They’re not performed fleet-wide.

Thank you! I know both of the safety recalls have been done as they happened since I have had the bike.
