Which GPS fits Garmin 660 GPS mount?

Hi folks, the 2022 Sea to Sky I’m picking up has the Garmin 660 GPS mount but doesn’t come with the 660 GPS. Which GPS is recommended for this mount, other than the very expensive 660? I normally just use Google Maps on my phone, playing directions over the sound system. Thanks,

I assume it's a Garmin Zumo 660. The S2S did not come with a Garmin Zumo; it was added. The cradle / mount will fit a Garmin Zumo 660 and 665. You can find used head units sometime on Face Book marketplace or eBay a lot cheaper then new.

Thanks I didn’t even realize it was on a ram ball mount, I do have a ram phone mount.

Used Zumo 660s on eBay are only around $200. There are 5 of them for less than $230 right now, including one 665. If you don't need/want XM Radio, get the 660. Loading current maps on a 665 takes a bit of a work around. The 660 with an add on memory chips loads them just fine.

I believe the Navigator IV is the same as the 660 - no XM Radio support.

Given you have the RAM mount, likely not worth chasing an older series Garmin IMO. They were good, but the processor etc is way out of date. I would changes over to an XT2 or XT3 Garmin, or what I did was add a Carpuride device so I had Android AAuto and Carplay. Carpuride mades a wide range of devices, varying prices and sizes. I did the 702 Pro. Carpuride does use your phone for for guidance etc, unless you get the 702 Plus that allows you to install apps on board.

I just put the Garmin Zumo 665 (same as the 660 but also has XM built into it) on the Spyder. I current run it on the Harley and wanted the capability to move it from it to the Spyder. I got the harness with the detachable mount from a friend, but I was looking on eBay and there are a few there. I have the Carpuride W702 and use it from local riding, but use the Garmin when we have groups rides. As an example; I can create a route with bio stops and canyons in Basecamp and load it into my Garmin to lead. I can also share it with others who have a Garmin to follow. You can’t do that with google maps or Waze. I run into problems with the Carpuride when using the Garmin, phone, Sena 50S since they all require Bluetooth (BT) connections. Granted the Carpuride W702 & Pro can handle 2 BT but I found problems when trying to use my Sena50 and my wife's, the Garmin, and my phone. Found it easier to use the audio out from the harness into the Spyder audio in. My Garmin also has XM radio built into it, so I get the best of both worlds. I got the dual ball mount handlebar cover from Slingmods to mount the Garmin. Here is what my setup looks like. Granted, because of the XM, you’ll see that I have to add the antenna for it.

The only downside to the Garmin Zumo 660/665 is that Garmin no longer supports the maps for them, but you can get Garmin Updated maps at Openstreetmap.com. The other downside is that the screen is horrible in bright sun. Today TG I could hear the turn by turn because the sun washes out the screen where you can barely see it, even with a shade like I have. Eventually I will go with a XT2 when the time comes, but for now my 665 is fine.

Your right! Forgot the 660 is still supported where my 665 is not. I found that method of loading the map cumbersome and painful at times.

I found a great site that you can download the most recent Garmin maps (Open-source maps) for free and install them in 5 minutes by basically renaming the image (img) file and then copying it into the SD card under Garmin. I accidently stated the wrong site in my last post and is not
OpenStreetmap.com; it is https://www.openmapchest.org and it’s a free download. There current map I loaded a week ago is 2026.8.29 US West and it worked today flawlessly. I haven't had any issues with their maps. The screen does washout pretty easily and I've tried using the dark and light background which each has its inherent problems in daylight.

When I get a few bucks, I'll upgrade to the XT2; but for now, need a windshield and exhaust first on the Spyder (Priorities ) . If you’re not using Basecamp, it's free and great creating routes and rides. I also use it when planning a trip with all my stops (including gas and hotels) for each day/night. Works well and uploads right into our units. I do turn recalculate off on the Garmin because it will bypass part of your route. Thanks for getting back to with that info. Mike

Thank you for that and I'll load them onto my Samsung 25 Ultra & try it on my Carpuride W702. Would make things a lot easier since the Carpuride screen is great in bright sunlight. I use the Garmin mainly on my Harley since its Pre-Bluetooth capable and I can connect the Garmin into the onboard Radio/CB (Audio in jack) for Turn-by-Turn directions with XM Radio through my wired headset. Was thinking about getting Hogtunes Bluetooth Wireless Music Connector for it (which takes the place of the worthless temperature gauge), but riding the Spyder more these days and just lovin it. Great info and really appreciate it!
